I just had a shock on my first months private pension payment, from £350 they are taking off £77 in tax, does this sound right. Apart from savings already taxed this is my only income at the moment. I thought you had a tax allowance of over £5000 per year?

That sounds like a straight 22% is being deducted. You need to contact your tax office and ask for the code number allocated to the pension to be adjusted to something a little more suitable compared to the current code BR.
