Summer Films is a TV production company based in West London. We are busy filming a programme in Thailand and will need Thai translators to translate footage into English (starting at the end of May).

Ideally we would need people with excellent English and Thai. You would be supplied with a DVD (timecoded) and a transcription of the action, into which you would need to add the translations of any Thai dialogue. We need very careful time coding and word for word translation.

You would be able to work from home as we would post you the DVD and email you the script.

If you are interested in this kind of work, please contact Caroline on info@summerfilms.com

Many thanks.

Hope you didn't provide any personal information. Might be a phishing scam.

Hi Everyone

I have just had a call from the husband of one the translators working with us on this project, and he let me know that there were concerns expressed on this forum about the legitimacy of Summer Films.

I apologise if this has been mistaken for a phishing scam. Our website is currently under construction as the company started in March. We are currently producing programmes for Discovery Europe, Five and Virgin One.

The reason I have not responded to everyone who applied is that we had quite an overwhelming response, and so far we have gone with six people who are translating for us. We may need more people at some point. We really appreciate the applications that have been sent through.

Caroline

Caroline,

Although I can appreciate you had a big response, it could be ab idea to at least acknowledge emails so we at least know what is going on

And if the husband of one of these translators had seen this discussion, why didn't he or his wife add a comment?

David, I don't see any phishing scam here just an apparently genuine offer of work. My only gripe with Summer is her (or the company's) failure to acknowledge the applications they have received or keep the applicants updated. There is no excuse for that. Had they done that then the negative comments posted here would never have been made.

I don't buy the excuse Summer has offered, it is quite simply a lack of common courtesy that's missing; all it needed was one post in this topic to say what the position is/was.

As for the negative comments, perhaps Summer can ask her translators to translate som nam naa Shrug

Hi Tobias

You're probably right that it is a lack of courtesy here but, for me, I would just be very cautious providing my details in this day and age off such scant information.

The film company, Summer films has a very small staffing ratio and is hard pressed to check and keep up with ongoing events it seems to me. On enquiry they took on six translators and asked for their addresses to enable them to send out a disc with some one hours of filming on in Thai. The request was for a word for word translation within 20 second time frames. The translation sent back within a frame work provided. The next step is to receive another disc. No financial details have been requested so far of anyone involved. [Moderator Edit (John) : I have removed a description of the subject of the film. It was provided on a confidential basis to those doing the translation, and it would not be right to disclose the subject of the film on a forum such as this.]
I will continue to update this forum, when I get more information.

That may be the case DavidJohn but it is no excuse for bad manners. One post updating the position in this forum would have avoided the suspicions some members have/had.

When you say "... No financial details have been requested so far of anyone involved ..." do you mean regarding payment for the translators' services?

I do. No details of bank accounts or any financial details have been asked for as far as I can ascertain. Translators have been informed of the payment scale however.

Has anybody tried applying for jobs in the UK and not getting replies.

It is the same. They advertise on web-boards for jobs.

You send details, no reply. You phone them up they don't reply.

Unfortunately it is the way of life these days.

I recently reacted to a request to attend an interview in Wednesbury near Birmingham, on attending I was met by the senior manager/MD who after introducing me to the HR lady commenced to tell me for 18 minutes that they already had someone and they did not want to lose him and they had been advertising and interviewing for the past 18 months.
I answered all their questions, never the less, and thought the interview went fairly well except all I got in return for my answers was "That's fine" They told me they had one other to interview and they would let me know at the middle of the forthcoming week. The next day I had a call from the agency used to carry out the prelimary interview that I had been unsuccessful due to "I didn't answer any question directly" Two weeks ago I had a request to re-interview with the Company! You can imagine my response.
Now thats discurteous

Hi DavidJohn,
I dont think you should give out the details of the footage in this forum, as it is confidential , what if the company wants to show the story on a television programme
and you already told us all??? there will be nothing interesting.I am sorry if my comments may offend you

There are approx 60 million who don't read the forum so its not likely to be a major issue Big Grin but if the company indicated that the scripts etc are to be kept confidential then thats how it should be.

I agree, and have now edited the post that gave some detail about the subject of the film.

Any more posts that include such detail will also be edited.
