To all Premium Members

The 1st anniversary of Premium Membership is approaching (1st May 2008) and it is time to decide on a charity to donate excess funds to.

Many thanks for your support!!

Premium membership subscription fees have, over the last 12 months, allowed us to keep features such as attachments and photo albums on the forums and have covered the excess charges levied by our hosting provider for the diskspace taken up by such features.

After covering those charges and keeping a little back for the future (just in case) we have managed to set aside £200 of the 2007/2008 subscriptions for charity.

As promised, we're going to allow Premium Members to decide where that money goes.

Please reply to this topic with your suggestions for which charitable cause, preferably Thai related, you would like to see this money go. Discussion and debate on the subject is also welcome.

Once we've collected a list of suggestions via this topic, a poll will be created for you to vote on who finally gets the money.

Look forward to hearing from you.

NB. Only Premium Members can reply to this topic.

Many thanks

Paul พอล

There are numerous Charities doing some excellent work with people who really need it. Remember Thailand is a country with no social security. Wherever we can help I am sure the money would be put to good use but personally I would vote for the Camillian Center Rayong who look after HIV orphans and have a wonderful hospice for those not fortunate enough to be treatable.

I Vote for the Camillian Center also, they seem very good, feeling people, after reading Richards tear jerker, posted two years ago.

Personally I would go with the Camillian Social centre too.

However,as Richard says there are a number of organisations providing essential assistance. This one has received mention in Pattaya recently.

I Vote for the Camillian Center also, it always make you feel humble when you read about these centres and how they can effect peoples lives.

My wife and I recently saw a VCD about a temple in Thailand that looks after unwanted AIDS sufferers, including a lot of children. I believe it is called "Wat Phra Baht Nam Phu", in Lop Buri.
A couple of weeks ago, at Chatuchak market, we visited a stall about this, where they told us that the temple is running out of money, and may have to stop doing this work.
I vote for that.

I have no special charity in mind although it would be nice if it was something in Pattaya (as I spend the majority of my time there).

Having said that (and because I do not have one in mind) any charity you choose or suggest is fine with me.

Thanks, I think we've now got the Camillian Centre on the list. Crazy

The poll hasn't started yet. Any other suggestions welcome. Smiler

Just to throw another name in the pot, check out the website here:

My wife and I switched from Bumrungrad and Sukhumvit Soi 49 hospitals (as fine as they maybe) to Camillian hospital on Sukhumvit Soi 55 as it is a charity run hospital, our vote would be for any Camillian charity.

In saying that, whatever charity in Thailand would also be fine!!!

Well done!

I'd just like to add to Paul's opening post by updating you all on the number of premium members and the funds generated.

We have 66 paying subscribers.
After paypal costs we receive £4.63 per subscription.

That has contributed £305.58 to the coffers of which we have managed to set aside £200 for charity.

Keep your suggestions for the donation coming and thanks for the support.

Lee

i go for the Camillian centre this year as well.

but think that we should change the nominated charity yearly, with a focus on smaller charities that are not so well known and/or supported from other sources.

That's probably a good idea. Unless there is strong opposition, each year's designated charity will be excluded from the vote for the following year.

Hi,

Just watched the video (thanks for the link Richardb) and I more than happy to vote for the Camillian Center this year.

Next year may be something in Isaan (as that to me literally is closer to home) would get my vote, though I don't have any suggestions at the moment.

Ps. Paul, that fly is driving me crazy! (what fly, etc…)

Just to update my post referring to the Mercy Mission above, there are a couple of bars where you can make donations of clothing etc direct in Pattaya and the bar owners will happily accompany you to the mission.
These are the Rockhouse (soi L K Metro) and Noi's Bar (soi Khao Noi).
