Hello, we live in Slough in Berkshire and my wife is looking for a part time job. Her English is fairly good and she is keen to start earning for herself. We would be grateful if anyone knows of anything

Hi Terry, first of all does your wife have the right to work in the uk,what type of job is she looking for there are plenty on the web www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk or you can try www.fish4jobs.co.uk or try the local Thai restaurant see if they have any jobs for waitress.

Good luck

I'll go along with Jobcentreplus – Cat got her two jobs from there and you'll get a guaranteed minimum wage at least.

Also go to all the hotels in your area – pick up an application form – Cat got an interview last year, but she'd only been in England a month so didn't do too well. Now she's more confident with her English / bus travel / and what it's like living here I'm sure she'd do better. Also try Wilkinsons, Poundland, Poundstretcher, KFC et al – these places employ overseas students (in Sheffield anyway) from the University so they are accustomed to dealing with folks who aren't perfect with England. In fact look around the shops and you'll see some that recruit Chinese (for instance) students, walk in and ask for an application. Then you fill it in but using the 'tone' of your wife.

Thanks
Christopher

I know Chris4cat is well meaning but I would take his advice with a pinch of salt, it may be best perhaps, to listen to someone from a better area and more able to make a mature judgement, perhaps someone from S6 district perhaps. Its not that they, from the other place are inherently untrustworthy, just that they are used to settling for less and accepting second best.

Lots of vacancies in care homes and for home care and some training on the job. Though for home care it helps if your wife can drive. Also nursery assistant if she likes working with children and her english isn't too bad. Both jobs can be done without qualification. Once her english is up to scratch there is no limit to what she can achieve, english and access courses at college.

If she's just arrived the CRB check might be an issue.

kind of

there is a big push for all childcare workers to have at least an NVQ level 2, which requires a reasonable level of english.

Duster-Would you consider S17 district to be more worthy or less worthy than S6? Or indeed is it a "better" area?

Hi You

As before is your wife qualified in thai massage? We are opening a thai massage wellbeing centre in Northwood, not far from Slough and are recruiting currently.

If interested you can contact me and meet at the place.

All decent and above board.

Cheers

Farah

Duster, what planet are you on?

Chris4Cat gave I thought excellent advice for someone looking for their first job.

What he is saying is start looking at the bottom of the ladder and your more than likely to find that difficult first job then with improved experience and language skills one might move on up.

Gordon Brown lives at 10 downing street his advice must be really good according to your measure. LOL

Lighten up...it's a joke, anyone from sheffield would get it, he's a blade I'm a wednesdayite, hence the S6 reference, where would we be without our petty football rivalries? Sitting pretty, fifth and sixth in the championship.

I just see one small problem with that statement.
