I picked up some fish in Tesco's this afternoon, described only as Vietnamese River Fish", it's a white meat and that's about all I know.
Anyone got any idea what it might actually be called and what to do with it? I was thinking of pan-frying and having a curry sauce, but I don't know much..... เจมี่ |

Often in Vietnamese restaurants you can get tilapia, which is a white fish. Maybe this is your fish?
There is a restaurant in London that serves it really nicely with dill (they say its a Northern dish, but I don't actually know if that's true, I didn't even know there was dill in VN). Other ways of preparing it would be to deep fry it. |

Looked again and they actually printed what it was on the label (I bought it from the counter)
It seems to be a Basa fish which I think is Pla Mong in Thai? เจมี่ |

It is a kind of catfish found in the Mekong river delta, apparently. Enjoy! Rob ร็อบ |

I think basa fish is the one of cat fish family that called pla sa-waay(ปลาสวาย), it taste very nice in red curry with coconut milk got sweet, spicy & sour taste(แกงคั่วส้ม) or with out coconut milk but put the extra lemon grass, keffer lime leaves & galangal(แกงส้มต้มยำ).
Life is such, I will never give it up!!! |
