Bought the Thai crystal deodorant in LOS, wifes friend wanted her to bring some back for use in Thai cooking, what is it's use and what dishes it is used in? maybe one of our experts could tell my wife please.

Use for soaking (mix with water) sticky rice before stream?

Thai’s call it Sangsom and apparently it makes the rice white and shiny, also good for smelly feet, so I’m told.

Must be a different kind of sangsom than I'm familiar with

Thank's everybody for info, cannot see how rubbing it on smelly feet then soaking with sticky rice will make the rice whiter, (kidding)

In Thailand sometimes they use it to make water clear before drinking.

My dad comes from Uthaithani, what I remember decade ago they hadn't have a proper water from the tap yet so they used the muddy-coloured water from the pond near their house. thrown the big chunk of that 'Sarn-Som' into it, left for few hours then used it to wash dishes&cloths and boiled to drink

But it can be used for the part of cooking as well especially to soak in water and wash vegetable in there, people said it a natural way to get rid of the chemical or some poison chemical they used in veg. The taste is sour

But because I been grown up in Bkk 'Sarn-Som' for me is for getting rid of B-O and it's really work for my brother though
