I guess there are few couples here that live in Thailand for six moths and come and work in in the Uk for six months.
I was looking at my wifes "Immigration and nationality directorate" for indefinite leave to remain and it says:- In order to be considered as settled here you will have to show that you are habitually and normally resident in this country. I was thinking of doing a few years of spending the summer in the Uk and winter in Thailand before finally moving over. Anyone had any problems doing this ? Or can your wife still come and go as she pleases? Thanks in advance . Paul Help i'm a Falang get me out of here |

my wifes sv has just run out and over the last 2 years we have spent more time over in thailand than in the uk....
Two weeks ago we sent off ilr application and on your very point i wrote a letter off to my local mp (norwich south, charles clarke) and got a reply basiclly saying as long as you can be considered as resident here..Eg home, job then will be ok.. But on this point they did also say that after ilr if we go for passport then they would certainly be looking into what time you have been here... Over the past 24 months of my wife having a settlement visa we spent 11 months in the uk.. When we get a responce from ilr application will let you know..... |

This is sort of my plan, But i have waited until er in doors recieved her British Passport. Now that has happened then I will be building a house this time next year. There is only one thing to consider in my view, that is .... If you can afford to buy something there, and you can afford to lose it in an eventuallity, then go for it. But if you are counting on the money invested in Thailand as some kind of security, forget it. regards Bryn I'm there Bryn |

sorry maybe i should have said more clearly my situation.
My wife has Ilr (eventually but that is another story) and we have a good average life in the Uk,one day we will move to Thailand for good,i am 39 (2 days ago happy birthday to me But if my wife will lose her Ilr there is no point, maybe wait and apply for a British passport and then things will be different. Thanks again Paul Help i'm a Falang get me out of here |

bababbobo, if your wife has ILR then it is now only a matter of a short time before she can apply for Citizenship and, subsequently, a British Passport. In the circumstances perhaps it's worth putting off your plans for just a few more months?
Once she has a British passport she can come and go as and when she pleases. Tobias - โทเบียส |

Yup you are right,i think that is the best thing to do,i wrongly assumed we could come and go as we pleased with an Ilr.
I'll wait and go for the British passport, then go from there. Thanks Paul and Dtim Help i'm a Falang get me out of here |

I suppose you could - but if Citizenship is an aspiration then there are residency requirements that need to be met for Citizenship. If you can wait, well worth the wait Tobias - โทเบียส |
