a friend of mine is moving to Thailand, lucky b, i am not jealous at all, and is wanting to take his car with him.
He has been quoted £800 by K-Line at South Shields but cannot find any info about paying import tax into Thailand.
Anyone got any info please

He will pay about 240% import take not including Tea money to customs. For 600000 baht he can buy a brand new Izuzu D-Max tell him not to bother importing vechicles to Thailand is a nightmare

both me and his thai wife have tried to tell him til we are blue in the face but he is bloody determined. apart from the fact that he can buy a new pick up cheaper, the car he wants to take with him is a Toyota MR2 which will be of no use whatsoever once he gets it onto the village roads of isaan

Is he completely mental? Eeker

And I am led to believe that the import duty now stands at 400% of the book price, not what you think it may be worth.... get the book, work out the duty, and stick it in his face with a calculator Wink

Agreed MF - Fortuner is damned good value. One on my shopping list for January. Crazy thing though, the top model only comes with auto transmission.

Get the auto.

Much better resale options.

Autos are much more popular in LOS than the UK.

Get him to read the replies on here and do a search on Thai Visa as well.
Then if he still goes ahead you can say 'told you so' when it all goes pear shaped.
We shipped some basics out to Thailand last April and the agent in BKK warned us about Thai customs and some of what goes on there regards high value items such as cars.
It really is not worth it.
