Previously known as an “enduring power of attorney” for those searching!
My father lives in LOS and is perfectly OK at the moment, but following a relative having a stroke and becoming mentally incapacitated; I have started to think about the future for him. Is a Lasting Power of Attorney available in LOS and what rights would I may have as a non Thai national relative? If he lives in LOS could I also control his assets from the UK? eg UK pension? eg by a UK Power of Attorney? If not what happens to the elderly in LOS? Anyone had any experience of this? I have a vision of him being ripped off by a dodgy bar girl or a “I’m your best mate” Farang, which LOS is full of. It’s also a question for all of us that may be looking at retiring in LOS Thanks |

A lasting power of attorney is an excellent idea and I recommended all my clients making a Will to make one (albeit then an enduring power of attorney).
However, you may wish to confirm your father is British and lives in Thailand. His estate will include assets potentially in both countries. It is quite usual for a PoA to be put in place by foreign residents so that their "domestic" affairs are managed from within UK. I don't know the answer to the thai element to your questions. Presumably your father also has a Will. Steve aka Rolyshark |
