I am going Thailand from London in march for 6 weeks .I know you get 30 day visa exempt on arrival .My stay will be 45 days .I will be going to Cambodia before my thirty days are up, so I would be able to get an other 30 day on reentry to Thailand .I cannot book my Cambodia ticket to show onward flight from Thailand as I do not know exact days yet ,wont know until I get to Thailand .Do I have to get a 60 day visa before I fly, or will I be alright just going to Cambodia before my 30 day is up .

Will my airline Eva, have a problem with this or will Thai immigration give me a problem on arrival .I just do not want to waste money on a 60 day visa which I will not be using ,advice on this much appreciated .

Where in Thailand are you going?

Getting a tourist visa will probably be much less hassle and cheaper in the long run.

I will be staying in Chiang Mai ,and a trip to mae sai is no problem if i wanted to do a visa run .However I am definitely going to be flying to Cambodia for a week or more before my 30 days are up .I am just wondering would i be refused by the airline for not having 60 day visa .

I am considering buying a ticket to Cambodia, and looking into how much date changes would be ,as this would be proof of leaving Thailand .I just do not know my exact dates to Cambodia and probably will not know until i meet up with some friend inchiang Mai ,but changing dates might be a better option .As may be able to stick with my dates anyway .

Just trying to save a little money and also do not want to pay for 60 day visa that i will not use .The exchange rate is getting worse by the day so every little helps.

Also my other concern is, they issue the visa from the date they get my passport .I know they issue normally quickly but i would like to send my passport away a month before i go away in case anything went astray .special delivery i would use but you never know ,and getting a replacement Irish passport can take time if something went wrong ,so would rather not have to get visa if i could avoid it .

just like to add .I just checked a one way ticket with air Asia to Cambodia .It works out cheaper for a one way ticket to Cambodia than a tourist visa and two special deliveries each way .The chances are i will probably go to Cambodia on that date ,if not may be able to change for a fee .I think one way because not sure how long I will stay in Cambodia and return tickets on air Asia do work out at about half price .Also you can still get good price even if you book the return leg a couple of days before going away .

so my question is would i be covered by having a valid e ticket showing i would be leaving Thailand within 30 days of entry .I know it must be a flight ticket and not overland .I would hope if i choose to go down this route then this would satisfy the airline an Thai immigration .

any opinions most welcome .

In answer to your question, which doesn't seem to have been answered, I don't think you need worry. Your return flight ticket dates are not relevenr to your visa stamp. If you put on your arrival form that you will be exitting to Cambodia that should suffice. You will not be overstaying your 30 day tourist visa. When I have been to Cambodia, admittedly, by road, and not by air, I have been automatically stamped with a 30 day visa for Cambodia, and on re-entering Thailand have automatically been issued with a new 30 day tourist visa, and new departure card, now stating exit planned to UK. Only if you try to re-enter Thailand 3 times, on Tourist visa do problems start to arise. I think you have no worries. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone in this forum will point it out.

Spot on in my opinion. Thumbs Up
No need to get any visa or Cambodia flight tickets in advance.

You are correct, Biowan should not have a problem with his plans, unless someone at the border got out of bed on the wrong side.

Not correct about the three stamps tho'..... you can come and go as many times as you like, the rule is no more than 90 days in any 180 day period, hence the assumption on other boards..... 3 x 30 days = 90.

The reason I would recommend a tourist visa, is because then there are no problems should plans change.

Sorry for the late reply, my internet has been a bag of bones all day.

A colleague of mine shared a hassle with me last week in Soi 4. He was given grief by the BKK immigration folks because he had similar circumstances as your goodself this past week.

Whilst the vast majority of the Thai Immigration Police are fine fellows, there is always the exception that seems to be prevalent when your under stress or time constraints.

In order to be procative and pre-empt any potential local numpty immigration tin God, get a tourist visa before you go. It'll be a dead issue...

After having lived in Thailand and SE Asia for many moons, I really believe it is just better to pay a few pennies extra to pre-empt any potential hassle... Remember, the saying, "TIT" (This is Thailand - logic doesn't count as much as in the west. Emotion, peer pressure and saving face are the prime movers)
