My wife wants to buy a DVD Player (multi-region) for her sister when we next go to Thailand.
Just a budget player - but I wondered what is available in Tesco, Big C, etc over in Thailand?
It's pretty easy to pick up a multi-region player here in the UK for £30-£40.....so I wondered about buying one here and taking it over?
Anyone any info on prices here & in Thailand ?
Thanks

Hi

I bought a cheap one from Asda last year to take to Thailand. It had everything but didn't state if multi-region or not....................you guessed it, NOT! so we got one from Big C for 3000Bht, all singing all dancing, a very good buy!

Becareful with taking DVD players to Thailand becasue they do not use SCART connectors and you therefore have to buy a SCART to the audio X 2 + video X 1 connectors.

I would recommend to buy it in Big C, Lotus, Carrefour or any of the other places. Most are multi region and you could get a nice one for THB4000 or so.

Cheap DVD players bought in the UK are extremely unlikely to be muti-region, or region free.

We bought ours in Tesco-Lotus and brought it back to the UK. The cost of an equivalent model from the same manufacturer (Samsung) was about the same in the UK, but the Thai one was region free, whereas the UK one wasn't.

It is also probable that even a more expensive DVD player bought in the UK wont play VCDs. We bought a karaoke DVD player for Poy in Comet, and it wont play VCDs Cry. (If anyone knows a way of fixing this, I'd be grateful.)

There are many budget DVD players available in the UK that are both multi-region and play VCDs. That's no problem.
Of more consideration is the position with SCART (or no Scart!).
Perhaps it's best to go to Big C etc...
Thanks to All
