Hi
Has anyone had any experience buying a computer or laptop out in thailand?

I need to buy a new laptop for my work when I move to Thailand and im not sure if i should get one here or there. Anyone know if theres much of a price difference and if the power supply supplied with a English laptop would work in Thailand with an adaptor.

Thanks

Hi Jared,

I've bought a few laptops from LOS over the years.

My experience is that prices are generally lower across the board compared to the UK. If you run intensive applications, you might struggle to find top-spec machines in LOS though.

The majority of keyboards are US Eng/Thai. For some reason, IBM Thinkpad T series tend to be in US English only (supplied with stick on Thai letters). If it really bothers you, many laptops have interchangable keyboards if you want to ditch the Thai (although not always cheap)

99% of laptop power bricks are universal so will work anywhere in the world. You may, however, need a Thai 2 pin (or 3 pin) to UK 3 pin adaptor.

Here's a list of retailers around LOS. I can recommend Global Solutions in Pantip (Fl2 and Fl4 IIRC). Good range, service and stock.

Adaptor ??? you could aways buy a single mains socket and a surface box and get a thai spark to wire a bit of wire and a thai plug to it. But then it would look a bit clumsy.

I've been abroad before and an adapter packed up...(more-like blew-up)...due to dodgy wiring...which inturn knackered the battery (don't ask me how???)

Luckily at the time I had spares...

I'd always advise you to buy two power adapaters and maybe even two batteries...for a couple of hundred quid you know that you can always work...And therefore earn £££

All the best Thumbs Up

My advent laptop worked OK. Might be an idea to get some surge protection though.
