The vitriol is quite clear in all the television previews I have read in the newspapers this morning.
Not that I generally admire many of these 'sex tourists', I can't help feel this will be just a chance for the viewers to laugh at others and feel sanctimonious without realising or appreciating the hugely complex web of reason why both sides engage in these activities. After all, this won't be a focus on a couple 20 something males off for a 2 week booze and sex tour of Pattaya, which apparently is pretty common, it'll focus on middle aged men who are bald, fat, ginger, have ruddy faces, socially inept etc. |

Yes, but it seems to be reasonably socially acceptable to mock people like this. Fat Bob certainly did nothing for the image. |

Who's Fat Bob?

You obviously missed the programme
I thought he was the perfect example of a sports reporter portrayed in 60's american tv movies, almost too good for me to believe he was real. Lucky |

The only thing i dont understand about these programs is why they travel as far as thailand to report on these things , why dont they go to spain and show all the so called golf holiday guys sleeping with the large amount of russian hookers there , or the stag parties in bucharest and amsterdam etc. this would keep there program budget down and make a change from the thai stereotype the press has.(maybe they golf too much)

There have been several such programmes over the year Andy, certainly about Amsterdam, Bucharest, Prague, Riga etc. They just haven't been mentioned in here.
So was 'Fat Bob' mocked in the programme? Tobias - โทเบียส |

All expenses paid trip.... plus the cattle watching at home will have probably been to Spain before, so will either not believe it or already know. Get out to some far flung Asian country that few of the UK population have been to, the viewing numbers go up. If you require marijuana..... press the hash key. |

Well this topic has recieved 91 replies in 6 days ( Is this a forum record? ) It seems that when 'the Sex tourist and Thailand is mentioned in the same discussion, Forum members come out on mass with a need to contribute to this topic, Some feeling's more strong than others, it will be interesting to see how one feels after watching tonights show, Will this show make Mr Joe Average's attitude to Thai ladies different or not ?
Cheers |

OK , so the woman who was writing the letters for the girls on the internet is a teacher in Kranuan and the Thai guy in the pink shirt, who was mc-ing the competition at the end is another teacher from Kranuan (the very same man who did our translations for us about two months ago).

I thought it was a really different kind of show tonight, far more comfortable viewing than the first part. I liked the fact that it was just presented in a very matter of fact way, the creators didn't seem to have started off with any axe to grind. Steered away completely from 'Thai women as manipulative, lying thieves' and didn't show any of the usual 'typical farang' behaviour. The most surprising part for me was that 'Best Foreign Husband' competition with hundreds turning out to watch representatives from Holland, Germany and the UK - is 'Barry from Romford' on this forum? Congratulations if you are!! Could have done without the tedious screaming and fighting among the bored, frustrated employees of Godiva Bar but other than that I thought they did OK.

Not by the programme makers themselves, all they had to do was let Bob be himself, really. However, a significant part of the programme featured translations of the girls chatting amongst themselves, with some very frank opinions of their various 'boyfriends'. Then again, would any of us have known if the translations were accurate? When Bob arrived and was viewing 'the lineup' he asked the mamasan/interpreter if she could explain that it was very important to him that the girls 'enjoyed themselves too' in a manner that reminded me entirely of Keith from 'The Office' explaining his success with women! However, she translated it to something along the lines of him seeking friendship and more, according to the subtitles anyway. Gordie T Geordie |

I enjoyed both programs and thought they editorial direction was good.
It's nice to see that the production team concentrated on real stories and real people rather than the usual junk we can read about on the internet and Sunday papers regarding Thailand. One thing that made me think was the way the wife acts and how jealous she gets in Thailand. Last weekend we attended my works xmas do. I had a bit to much to drink and smacked some young lady on the bottom, the wife said "I ok, not jealous but not make same this Thailand". Does this make me a Farlang Trophey Husband ? |

Agree with you GTG regarding the thai program ,it didnt seem to make the situation look as seedy as the previous one which i must admit i was surprised at. Well maybe at work i wont hear too many remarks directed at me ,water duck back etc..
