Dear All,

I've been following the advise on here to try and istall a Thai keyboard on my new (work!) laptop, however on the "Regioanl and Languages Options" It doesn't allow me to select the "Supplemental Language Support" it won't allow me to put a tick in the box (it is light grey)

Anyone any idea how I can et around this.

thanks a million in advance!

Hi Milky

I doubt John's suggestion is going to be an option if it's a work PC. What version of Windoze is it?

Just a guess as it's a work computer, but you may not have 'Administrator' access and instead log in as a standard 'User'. That could deny you the ability to change such settings.

Hi Mike,

Yes I've had myself set as an "administrator" so i can at least down load things now. However it is now asking me to insert the "professional XP" disk for the complex script. Do you know if i can down load that from anywhere?

Cheers

Hi Fred Wink

I'm not aware of anywhere you can download the files, you may need to find a friend who has an XP disk you can borrow. That will certainly do the trick.

To paraphrase John a little bit.

Buy a Mac .... problem solved.

Sorry, but it makes all those generic versions of Unix look like hard work, and it makes Windoze look like exactly what it is, state of the art programming to make up for the deficiencies in antiquated hardware.

I love my Mac.

Why is it that MACs and a bit like Marmite, in the sense that people either really love them, or really hate them?

Personally can't stand them.

I don't think it paraphrases me at all! All I am saying is get away from Windows! And Ubuntu is a practical, and totally free, way of doing that. And as well as there being a reason in English, there is also a version in Thai!

In reality, Windows works fine for most of us. But most have to pay for XP thats why they have the disk that allows this simple process to be completed.

How do I know its simple?

Because I managed it! Wink

If its a works PC/laptop, maybe wise to check the T&C's of where you work about the consequences of amending/adding to the kit, unless you're the boss!

In my course of work and leisure, I use all three; Ubuntu, Win XP and OS X.

I use Ubuntu for certain types of work as it has the power of *Nix and some of my tools only work in Linux. Windows is great for the sheer amount of software written for it. OS X mainly for the arty farty stuff (mainly photo and video editing).

The best thing is knowing what is best for each job. I'm certainly not a proponent of any of them. To be honest, I get a little tired reading about people going on about their particular OS choice. If anyone's interested, there are Internet forums dediced to such conversations.

Horses for courses, I say!

All,

I've found an old copy of XP, which I've put in and that's done the trick!

Cheers!

i converted to mac os x about 1 year ago and have to admit...... i wish i had used it sooner

i also have windows xp on my imac, which i use for viewing the football online, as there is no p2p client for the sport yet.. maybe i have just not found it yet

i struggle to think of 1 single other reason for keeping windows. once i have the p2p i might as well uninstall it

have we got any windows vista users out there?
how are you doing with the new operating system?
i havent had time to try it out yet but have heard there are problems with it and hogging memory

There are loads of them, I don't just inhabit this forum you know Wink

Windows will always have the same problems whichever version you have, it's the Swiss cheese of operating systems, full of holes, smells a bit funny and tries to stay neutral with the 'it's not our fault' claim, you clicked on it.
