There's a ban on satellite dishes at my new apartment complex, however the landlord had suggested the LX2000 Digital Satellite Antenna which is reviewed here. It claims to receive all that a Zone 1 dish will and seems to perform on a similar level to a 50 cm dish. (It's also classified as an antenna so isn't affected by the dish-ban.)

As satellite signals go, is the Thai TV satellite signal strong or weak? If it's a strong signal, there's a good chance this little antenna will pick it up without too much interference.

Anyone got any experience with it?

Thanks Smiler

Cliff,

Hotbird 3 usuaally requires a 80cm+ dish, however, I'm in south west London and I can get away with a 60cm mesh dish. The signal beamed down isn't too strong and you might find that with the antenna you lose the signal during a thunderstorm.

You might need a pro to point it in the right direction though - it's a bit of an art!

Thanks packpao. If the antenna will get us a acceptable/watchable signal on an average day, then we'll most probably go for it. Are you in the satellite installing business?

Hi Cliff, this type of antenna will definitely not give you the same results as what an offset dish of the same diameter will.
The beam is a wide beam with a typical gain of 50dbw, depending on your location will determine the dish size, this doesn’t mean you need an 80cm dish.
A 50cm or 60cm dish will be adequate for TGN.
Buy it and try it is my advice, make sure you get a professional to install it so that it is lined up and skewed correctly.
It would be interesting to know the results if you decide to go ahead with it.
Keep me posted and good luck.
Paul.
