Tang has just come back from the us where she can get on the net, however she cannot here in the uk, she can however get skype here, the house she lives in has working internet access. she has a dell laptop and wifi. any thoughts ???????

If she can get skype working then I'm assuming that she can successfully connect to the wifi access point?

If it's Internet Explorer / Firefox and email that isn't working then I suggest this.

Go to that Start -> Run menu and open a command window (type CMD) in the run box.


Type the following three commands pressing return after each

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Post back if this doesn't work

Thanks Jamie, we tried that, it seems that whatever she typed in the run box dissappeared when she pressed the return key. I,m curious is it possible dell have a firewall of there own on the system. We turned to windows firewall off. The wifi link says its connected.

I think I know what went wrong, if you were tying the commands in the run box, it would execute the commands without waiting for the next one and then dissappear like you saw.

Try typing http://207.46.192.254/ to see if using the IP address works. This should take you to a microsoft site.

If it does try my first suggestion again but type CMD in the run box this should give you a window similar to this one.

Then type the ipconfig commands there.

It sound like a the laptop's file that it keeps a copy of where to find the website has been corrupted.
