I am been having severe stomach pains on my right hand side under my rib cage ,then the pain moves to my stomcah for approx 5 weeks.After numerous doctors visits, 2 short stays in hospital,I have considered going to Thailand for treatment.I am getting a scan done on my lower abdomin next week but have been told if they find something I could wait 3 months for an operation.I am in constant pain even though taking pain killers and can't eat alot.Lets just say I am a bit miffed with the NHS.
Has anyone used any hospital in Thailand for any treatment they could recommend?

I have, Bumrungrad is excellent for Bangkok, but the 2 I have used in Issan are AEK Udon International and Paolo Memorial in Udon Thani. I highly recommend the AEK Udon International for diagnosis, facilities, care, cost and comfort. There are 2 high rise buildings, one containing the hospital and restaurant and the other accomodation, car park, dry cleaners and shop. I rented a room there for £90 for the month, superkingsize bed, 28" TV and Satellite, Fridge with cold drink dispenser, balcony and bathroom. They diagnosed and fixed problems in a week after spending almost 2 years NHS and Private here in the UK.

Johnboy....my dad has similar symptoms..he thought it was an ulcer....but was told by his consultant 'today' that he has an hieatus? hernia.

Hi,
I wish I could help if you could tell me more details of your symtoms.I am a Thai nurse working in the UK.I would suggest that get the x-ray done next week first and see what they have found and if there is anything that serious I am sure that the consultant will find the way to put you on the list sooner rather than 3 months time waiting, or if the condition is not harmful and you can wait for 3 months then why not have the operation done here as it will be free.
Now, if you are thinking of going for operation in Thailand which the services and the staff are exellent, I still suggest you to have an x-ray done here atleast you got some idea what really happen to you , then you got some medical information to discuss with a doctor in Thailand, Bangkok private hospital in BKK is great, also Payathai private hospital 1 or 2 in BKK.Bumrongrat private hospital, in my opinion is expensive , normally for rich people, if you are rich then why not??

Additionally,think about how you would travel to Thailand. Are you fit to fly? Would flying affect your condition? Would the airline permit you to fly? Consider the consequences of a mid air emergency. You would of course be making a full disclosure to your travel insurance company to ensure you complied with your duty of disclosure. Will you still be insured? Might you not be better off,if you must travel,by going overland to,say,Poland for treatment?

If surgery is needed you will need to ensure any "wound" is well taken care of, my thoughts are MRSA here, Poland cold and Thailand mosquito. I know where I would prefer my recuperation period

In my opinion,If it was appendicitis , it should be ruptured by now and the pain would be unbarable.

BTW, did you see any urology consultant?? if any suggest of urology problems like stone??or kidney's problems.Did you pass urine fine?

Thanks for your correction....I was trying to say that I am only a ( Thai)nurse( not a doctor...so I dont know as much as a doctor) who work in the UK. Sorry for my English

Considering where the pain is I'd have thought a kidney stone unlikely. However Gallstones would cause pain under the right side of the rib cage.

Pancreatitis is a possibility but it would have been diagnosed with a blood test as his lipase levels would be very high

I would be a bit more belligerent and just go to your nearest A&E department. They shouldn't let you go until they have an idea what is wrong with you.

I once had kidney stones, in the space of a few hours I had been checked for virtually every known problem and had x-rays/scans done.

I know from experience that it is impossible to speculate what it could be, far too many things can cause abdominal pain, even a doctor couldn't without performing tests.

I have been in hospital for 4 nights.
The pain occured again,this time much worse and my father took me to A&E.I was later transfered to another hospital via ambulance.The doctors gave me morphine and put me on i/v antibioctics,the following afternoon I was send for a
ultra sound scan.It showed up I have gall stones, one being 20mm in size which is stuck in the neck of the gall bladder.The gall bladder had become infected due to the blockage so I given further antibiotics and kept in hospital.The consultant advised that the operation would be carried out in six weeks, this would allow the swelling and inflamation to go down so they can do the operation via keyhole surgery.

Glad to hear the problem has finally been diagnosed and is relatively easy to resolve - and well done teansri for correctly highlighting the possible cause

Hi Jonboy,
I am glad that your problem has been solved..6 weeks is not too long as you have to wait until you have finished the antibiotics and all inflamation to go down, I am sure the consultant and staff will do their best for you..I wish you are getting better very soon and hope there will be no complications after the operation.
