I have been looking at Travel insurance for Lamai .

I am not an insurance expert , so i have been reading other members posts on the subject to get an insight .

I have checked out several firms who offer worldwide TI .

Problem i have is when i read the small print/terms and conditions on the policy they all seem to have a 'Return to Residency' and when i check the Annual it is a 60 day period of travel then return to Residency . The example below is Columbus Insurance.

PERIOD OF INSURANCE (Single Trip Only) - The period of the TRIP commencing on the date stated in the Schedule and ending when YOU arrive HOME or on the last day of the Period of Insurance stated in the Schedule whichever is the earlier. However, the PERIOD OF INSURANCE for Cancellation under Section 1 starts on the date of issue of the Schedule and ends immediately YOUR TRIP commences.

TRIP(Annual Multi-Trip Only) - A holiday or journey outside YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE not exceeding 60 days duration which starts from YOUR HOME and ends on return to YOUR HOME. Cover is also provided for a holiday or journey within YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE as long as you have two or more nights pre-booked accommodation.

TRIP (Single Trip Only) - A holiday or journey outside YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE, to countries within the geographical area stated in the Schedule, which starts from YOUR HOME and ends on return to YOUR HOME, during the PERIOD OF INSURANCE stated in the Schedule.

( I should say i am still waiting to hear back from BUPA Thailand)

If there was a problem and i made a claim they would just refuse the claim and say she wasn't returning to her Country of Residence .

Thailand is her country of origin but is she resident in the uk now so her country of resident would be the uk not Thailand .

If she has a residents visa here for the UK then this is her country of residence ( as opposed to her country of 'birth' ). Otherwise if you are concerned insure her with a Thai travel agent via the www.

But if she has a bank account here, joint or otherwise, check that she doesn't already have travel insurance with the bank. A number of banks give out a 'free' insurance now for their customers. Mine did ( NatWest Gold Account ) & I never knew I had it till a few months ago.

According to 'watchdog' on BBC 1 last night travel agents give out the worst cover value for money. Try the post office or a specialist insurance agent & remember to ask if 'a previous medical condition' is likely to be covered, which is where alot of insurances fall down!

She only has ' Fiancee Visa ' Does this give her Temporary UK residency for the duration of the visa 6 Months ?

I am using the www Casey Jones but the Thai companies i email are somewhat slow in replying i have emailed BUPA twice and no reply and AIA no reply.
i phoned AIA but number just rang , life is slower there , of course this is the attraction ha ha ha ) .

All i want is some travel insurance to cover her journey from Bkk to Uk , we will hopefully come back together next month , we are not married yet Officially she is my Fiancee.

I don't expect any problems , but she has never been on a plane before and you just never know.

Ah, I see. As soon as she arrives in the UK she will be entitled to free NHS treatment because she will be here for a 'settled purpose', so there is no worry in that respect.

If you are looking for medical cover for the journey from Bangkok to UK or, for example, lost bags, missed departure et al then I suggest you check with the airline or a Thai based travel agent to see if they can suggest any cover for for the 2 days! Do point out you are only looking for cover up until the plane lands in the UK.

The cover you mention in your opening post will not be relevant because until the day your fiancée actually arrives in the UK she will not be considered (in law) as 'resident' in the UK.

Once she has landed all future travel insurance will be easy, she can buy the very same insurance policy as you!
