Hi,
Both my wife and I are considering having treatments that help you lose weight while in Bangkok. There's lots of stuff you can do, ranging from fasts, colonics, electric shocks, liposuction, other surgery.
I would appreciate posts from anyone who has specific experiences trying treatments like this in Bangkok - places, costs, safety, effectiveness etc.
Thanks,
Oan.

Make sure you tell your travel insurance first as any complications etc are certainly not going to be covered. As someone who is also a bit on the large size unless your seriously feeling ill I recommend a mild diet and light exercise.

Well diet and exercise are the most important things and a change in lifestyle is the best option.

Any other individual treatments that claim you will lose weight are generally a con. Fine, if it's part of a spa treatment and makes you feel good/relaxed, but none of these will ever make you lose weight.

A fast will make you lose weight, but they can be dangerous and will it really be long term?

Surgery really is quite drastic, and unfortunately it's been glamourised far too much. Any liposuction will make you feel as if you have been hit by a bus, very painful and there is quite a long recovery period. And of course being overweight increases all the risks during surgery too.

Another thing to watch out for is post-op infections which are one of the most common problems for westerners having work done in cheaper countries. It's not the hospitals, it's the fact they spend their recovery time in a resort or similar and then get infected by water there.

As for anything else surgical, I wouldn't even consider it without seeing doctors in the UK and getting long term plans - things like stomach bands etc.

If you're considering a spa, this article is a must-read. It's a hilarious account of the writer's experience at Spa Samui. I would highly recommend this particular spa as the method described in the above article resulted in me shredding a few pounds (from both my belly and wallet).

Liposuctions may be risky and can cause death.

However, more simple and often overlooked, Drinking Water May Speed Weight Loss.

I take the WC Fields approach to water-

I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish do in it.

I never drink water; that is the stuff that rusts pipes.

You can't trust water: Even a straight stick turns crooked in it.

Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake.

Drown in a cold vat of whiskey? Death, where is thy sting?

Thin people get on my wick when talking about this subject (big presumption of me I know Roll Eyes ). It is oh so easy to say eat less but you have no idea what it is like when you want to loose weight and can't, and yes I'm fat *******.

I'm trying to loose weight at the moment and have actually been told that I need to eat MORE as I am not getting enough calories to loose weight!!!

Oan, I can't say that I would go as far as you appear to want too but good luck in what you and the wife choose, just be careful and choose wisely.

Hi Gary, I've just been listening to a radio show which you might be interested in. The host is Michael Neill, a life coach, and to hear the show click the link below:

Weight Loss Made Fun (Hay House Radio)

The sound quality is a little ropey at first, because he's broadcasting on a phone from a hotel! Stick with it, though, because Paul McKenna is the special guest and he has some GREAT weight loss tips.

I'm also trying to lose a few pounds before Thaiboi gets back from LOS. Let me know if you find the tips helpful/motivational and I'll find some more for you.

Smiler

Cliff, thanks for the link but I am having a problem and keep getting "Unable to initialize a file" which is probably down to the fact that I have a pile of crap for a PC.

Thanks anyway.

I have been told before that I need to get one of Paul McKenna's motivational CD's as a friend of mine said it helped her (not enough of a friend it would appear for me to borrow it to see if any good) but to buy one I think am a little bit dubious (read tight if you like) as to if it will work.

Gary, right click the file and save to your computer. Then try opening it with Windows Media Player.

Gary - thanks for the emotional support.

Keith and Prenders - thanks for the insight that eating less results in weight loss!

I have resorted to the gym as my only hope - apparently I ran off 430 calories today!
