travelling back to los in june with my wife . she is on a FLR visa now , i want to take out travel insurance for the both of us ,will there be any problem doing this because she is not a permanent resident in the UK .. and can anyone recommend cheap travel insurance for me

i was told my wife had to be in the uk for 6 months to qualify with my insurance.just to let you know my wife child and me have just returned from thailand where unfortunatley are 5 month old child took ill and spent 2 days in hospital having picked up a virus called rotor virus my insurance company insure and go paid out immediatley well recomended

I use insureandgo too...

Worth looking at their more expensive policies...higher luggage payouts, golf clubs insured, motorbike usage, skiing, diving, etc etc included.

FLR is a residency visa - she will be considered, in law, as a permanent resident i.e. not a visitor.

The six month rule - I disagree, either your wife is 'normally resident' in the UK or she isn't. So I would be surprised if an insurer attempts to restrict cover to those who have been in the UK over 6 months. Check the wording of the small print.

As an Insurance Broker I agree with Tobias a FLR means you are normally UK based with a UK address and can take out a UK travel policy with no problems (cetainly the ones we sell as FSA registered brokers but not all selling travel policies come under the regulations)
