A friend of mine (no seriously not me) will be going to LOS in Jan for 2 weeks holiday but is planning to stay for 4 weeks i.e 28 days so no visa req.
Now he only has 2 weeks leave from work officially so is going on the sick for a fortnight,so where can he get a doctors sicknote in Bangkok basically stating 'unfit to travel homeward' if you get the idea.As his UK boss would want evidence of this in order to authorise full pay.
Now IIRC he has already booked return flight for the 4 week period so no need to change flight times.
Any ideas guys ?

Probable any hospital, but he would have to invent an illness, if he needs some one to break his leg let me know it can be arranged for a small fee.

I was thinking more along the lines of 'Buffalo sick' or tea money for doctor

If he did this and if his boss paid him his full wage for the duration then doubtless the boss would be claiming the SSP portion back from the government.

So you are asking us for advice on how to defraud not only this person's employer but the taxpayer as well!

I had an employer who questioned the possible value of a non uk sick note, ie ie how can the employer be sure about the doctors qualification.
My firm like to get in touch from time to time, they call it duty of care ???

I know you asked Nick, but I back what he says so feel I should reply to the above comment too. I have had days off work sick and I have been sick, I have been to work sick when I should have been at home and even hospital, however I have never taken a sicky when I have been A1 and IMHO think it would be morally wrong to plan and take an extra 2 weeks "holiday" abroad lieing to an employer that I was ill (my Karma thoughts are that if he does it he will most probably get ill during that time anyway )

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had work colleagues like him, his not an MP or MEP by chance is he?

I work offshore, so its a little more complicated. I feel no pain and have 100% mobility yet she was worried about infection........ She fails to realise that the rig doctor allowed me to be there even though it was a million times worse before i had it done. Funny world we live in eh?

Yes, Thad, I have thrown the odd 'sickie' but only for one day at a time. Although not recently, as I am only six months into being employed again after 12 years of self-employed!

However, IMHO taking the odd day sick is completely different to conning 2 weeks sick pay out of one's boss. (I am well aware that it is only a matter of degree and so my stance may be open to accusations of hypocracy.)

If this person wanted a longer holiday then I am sure that some arrangement could have been made with his employer; 2 weeks paid, the rest unpaid. That's what Noi did recently when she spent 6 weeks in Thailand visiting her dad after his stroke.

Curious to know what "sickness" he's going to create to be plausible, but still show no effects after his return?

Snap, well actually, worse than that. 3 weeks ago today I had the Zadek procedure ... removal of toenail and nail bed from both big toes ... having suffered from in-growing toenails for decades.

I went back to work on the following Monday, and indeed on that Monday drove from Birmingham to Bristol and back.

Hope you get back to work soon. Just think of all the income tax you are saving! Less earnings = less income tax!

Ah now i understand bullsh****ing about buffalo s**t.

We run on an annual bonus scheme part of which includes team attendance of 97% so 1 person off sick can ruin everyone's money,crafty but it works.

i had an ingrowing toe nail removed at hillingdon hos and the nail bed scrapped so no further nail growth but i had to wait 9 months to get it done. when i realised that i needed the other big toe treated as well i had that done in BKK whilst on holiday walked in see a doctor wait 30 mins 1 hr later nail removed 950 baht lighter job done also on a simular note walk in see a doctor wait 1 hr snip done kanchana was able to be present throughout just to make sure cost 3000 baht, i know its free in the uk but ive always found the medical treatment in LOS very good

It gives me no pleasure to say that your friend will have little difficulty in locating a Thai doctor to write a customised doctors note.

One thing for certain though...he sure as hell wouldn't get my wife doing that for any sum of money.

Shamably so. It costs 30 baht in Khon Kaen to obtain a glowing certificate of health for the purpose of obtaining a driving licence; the doctor doesn't even see sight of you. No doubt a certificate of "non health" would cost little more.

Wouldn't your friend get a pleasant surprise if his boss offered to reimburse his cost of rescheduling the return flight as well as his sick pay for two weeks? Of course, he would need to produce a receipt from the travel agent where he rescheduled his flights. No receipt, no pay. Or if I was the boss: no receipt, no job. It's been nice working with you.

He could try the method i used on my first visit to Thailand, slightly more ethical as it is not conning money from the tax payer, but slightly more risky depending on the investigative nature of his boss.

I went out for three weeks first time, but enjoyed myself so much i decided to stay an extra week. On the day i was due to fly home i called my boss, "I am deep in the ****, my flight from Bangkok to Bahrain was delayed and i have missed my connection. They are putting me up in a hotel and feeding me but there is only one flight per week to London so iam stuck here with no money. Really sorry i will make it up when i get back"

nice one john.... i know how much of a relief it is once you get it done as i had the right toenail taken off about 3 years ago.

my left toenail problem was created by one of those jomtien beach pedicure butchers. she whipped off too much of my nail before i could protest. anyone thinking of getting their nails clipped over there would be best advised to use one of the proper ones in the salons

have got private healthcare through work, so i have had the full procedure done for free.

anyone thinking of getting it done...... the appointments will probably cost you at least £200

On the toe front i too had Zadek procedure on both big toes about 8 years ago, this was on NHS locally and very good too.
I was told "we'll do 1 then come back 4 weeks and do other"

Ian,there was a guy that worked with me who had asked our boss for 4 weeks holiday, and boss told him he could only have the 2 weeks to which he was entitled. He decided to pull a fast one, but told his boss he could not get a seat for the return journey as they had over-booked. He did not even want paying for the extra days. No fraud involved. Just unpaid leave. Our boss phoned the airline and found out dates he had booked, from airline. No confidentiality there. He was sacked the day he returned to work. If your friend has already booked his flight dates 4 weeks apart, he could be in trouble. I don't think a doctor,s note would help a lot.

Reason for dismissal - unauthorised leave.
Your friend had already laid his cards on the table by asking for 4 weeks leave- big mistake he was refused and took the leave anyway,little wonder his boss became suspicious and phoned the airline.
How did the boss know which airline to call ?

Is there any confidentiality with regards to airline passenger lists,in this day and age i would be very suprised
if not.

Actually I'm not sure if the boss phoned the airline or the airport (Heathrow) arrivals. The guy is married to a Philipina, and flew to Manila, so maybe he went through various airlines. I'm sure many people phone airlines to check if a loved one caught a certain flight. No reason for confidentiality. The point I was making was your friend booked his flights for 4 weeks. He might have been better to book for 2 and change return date, in accordance with his deception. I'm not trying to put blockers in your way, just trying to help.

On a more serious note though, as this seems to be the thread to post it on, if anyone has advice for me on how to get a job where I can mess the employers around for additional pay and holiday on top of a salary of about £60,000 a year and turn up at the office when I feel like it, then please let me know. Don't quote the obvious though of beome an MP!

Please, please, please anyone asking you about bunking off time, tell them NO don't do it! It does in one way or another affect us all, think about it!
