Genotype means the actual genetic coding for a particular characteristic....what your genes actually say about something. This is distinct from phenotype which means what actually shows in your body.

For example, you could genotypically have genes for both brown and blue eyes in your make-up. However, because brown is a dominant factor the blue would remain hidden in your phenotype.

This is why two brown eyed parents can suddenly have a blue eyed child---both parents having a blue gene in their genotype which was masked by the dominant brown gene but, at the moment of fertilisation, sperm and egg containing blue-eyed genes fusing to produce a blue-eyed baby.

Hope this helps. If it's too technical pm me and I'll try again. If I'm being to schoolmasterish, sorry, habits of a lifetime.

In any case hope the problem is soluble.

Hi mate, sorry but not much help here, however have you tried your local hospital. Jumpa is currently undergoing tests and they have provided a Thai interpreter for her. I found out at an early stage that explaining medical conditions, treatment etc in pidgeon english was not a good idea.
Best of luck, Nigel and Par

I think Thai definitions of genotype and phenotype can be found here:
