Hiya folks,

I'm a fairly regular in Pattaya and I've often wondered about having my teeth whitened while I'm there. Supposedly it's much cheaper in LOS and I was wondering if anyone else had done it of there, what their experience was nad where would they recommend going?

Please also bear in mind that I'm not too keen on dentists usually so pick a good one!

Although not in Pattaya, I had my teeth whitened in Bangkok about 2 years ago, here:

http://www.bangkoksmiledental.com/

The surgery is quite small, near the Britsih Embassy/Siam Paragon, but the dentist was very nice, she spoke good English and had studied at Boston University in the USA.

The procedure took about 2 hours or so, was "uncomfortable" rather than "painful" (I wore a mouthguard and a pair of sunglasses Cool whilst it was carried out).

At the beginning, they hold a chart to compare the "shade" of your teeth, before and after. I changed colour by about 1 shade, but the dentist said my teeth were pretty white to begin with.

If your teeth are discoloured through smoking or age you will notice the difference a lot more.

Afterwards my teeth were a bit tender for a day.

Finally, the cost was about 12,000 baht, as opposed to about £500 or more in the UK.

I try to go there every trip to have a check-up, and get my teeth cleaned.

Hope this helps.

Again, not Pattaya, but another Bangkok one.

They have a variety of treatments depending on how much you want to spend, BriteSmile being the best.

Had mine done last year in pattaya. there are quite a few around the friendship supermarket all of which seem very pleasent. I have never understood the benefits of laser work and most seem to use bleach which is a bit unpleasent but not painful. As memory serves 6k to 12k depending on which treatment. If you have any crowns etc you may not get much improvement. You may find the dentist will only whiten as far as the crowns/bridges to maintain consistency. A word of advice, take something to read or listen to as your are in the chair for a while and its boring. You could try the hospitals. don,t leave it to the last minute of your stay. My lady friend found it highly amusing that I should spend the equivalent of her monthly salary having my teeth whitened.

I had my nashers done when in BKK, great service. I think it was about 12-13 K. make sure that you do not have it done too many times though, a family friend has been having her teeth whitened regulary for years and is now losing her teeth as the enamel has nealy gone from her teeth.

Or if you want them really white you could always get veneers. Around 10000B per tooth, which is a lot cheaper than in the UK where it is £700-£800 per tooth.

Had mine done in twice while in LOS.

The last time was a year ago about Jan 06 and had it done at a place opposite Pantip plaza which you can not miss.

Nice pleasent staff. The procedure like others said took about 2 hours. And it is unconfortable. In fact as the laser hit various teeth I found some to be very unconfortable and its hard to explain the feeling, but gone as soon as the laser went by.

2 hours is a long time with your mouth open.

The results were good but did not last a long time. I would say by June they were going back to there original colour and now there is no difference.

The funny thing is I was out at nightime having a few drinks with my girlfriend and all of sudden I would get shooting pains through my teeth for a split second like an electric shock. It was strange. It had gone next day.

I didn't bother this year due to the fact it does not last long, its uncomfortable and 10000 baht is a lot of money to my girlfriend and I think its a bit rude spending the equivalent of a months salary on somethings so vain. So in duty free after I left her spent the money on grooming products Smiler

Had all mine done at a one man band clinic in Petchburee soi 12 ( Rajthevee Bts stop ) had loads of stuff done including a full enamel top set, all told was 7,000 baht, friendly and concerned Doc, also trained here and speaks good english, try and use a clinic outside off the tourist areas, they will sting you....if you pardon the pun.

I used to be indecisive.....but now i'm not so sure!!!

When they fit veneers...do they have to file the tooth down?

And do they have to be replaced? Not sure if I want to have that much pain Confused

They have to shave a layer off the front, leaving a little ridge around the edge so that the veneer can be kind of set into the tooth. I had mine done about 14 years ago in the UK and I've only lost one so far. The Thai dentist offered a cheap alternative as a temporary measure, basically replacing it with amalgam and smoothing it off and that's been fine for a few years now, never bothered with the proper replacement.

I had my teeth laser whitening by a very good practice on sukhumvit 39. All I can say is...BLOODY painful. Got a couple of shades whiter for a couple of months but definitely not worth it. I guess it depends on how sensitive your teeth are, but after a couple of laps with the laser as soon as that thing went onto the flat of the tooth it felt like it was being drilled into and the tooth was about to fall out. Never again. Will always opt for bleach.
