Hi

The good folk from bahtbus.com are running a drunkathon in memory of Aom) to raise funds for the Camillian Centre, in Pattaya this November.

From bahtbus.com
The Format: Nearly the same as last year, the main changes being 10 pin bowling will replace the far too energetic game of table tennis.

The biggest change is the decision to hold the event over two days, as there was barely time to breath between venues last year. We can also play 18 holes of golf instead of 9 on the first day and still have ample time left for darts, at a venue yet to be decided.

The contestant with the highest accumulated points following golf, darts, 10 pin bowling and finally 8 ball pool will become the new champion (although the Camillian Centre will be the real winner).

Again the entrance fee will be 2,000 baht, of which 1,000 goes to the Camillian Centre and 1,000 to the winner, who then donates his winnings to the kids at the centre.Smiler

The Date: It appears the best dates when the majority of possible entrants will be in town would be Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th of November.

The Target: Last year all were more than surprised that we managed to raise 104,000 baht, let’s go for yet another surprise this year.

Thailand-UK have recently started working with Bahtbus.com in raising money for JAIDEE appeal in aid of the Camillian centre.

We are also making a pledge to the drunkathon in memory of Aom.

So far Myself, Paul, Keith, Conrad & Casey Jones together with £70 from the Thailand-UK kitty have managed to put a pledge of £200 together.

We would dearly love to be able to make a bigger pledge in support of this event and the good work of Father G at the Camillian centre.

If any forum member would like to add £5 £10 £20 or whatever to the Thailand-UK drunkathon pledge then please reply to this thread, send me a Private Message or email me lee@thailand-uk.com

Could I also appeal to all forum members if not making a pledge to the drunkathon fundraiser to consider making an individual donation to Father G at the Camillian centre.

You are now able to donate to the Camillan centre through the post office.

For full details on how to donate click here

Here are the pledges for the drunkathon to date.

Johnnie Walker, the man behind the Drunkatholon initiative, has posted the following on the Bahtbus.com Message Board:

It’s time we had a few confirmations of who is playing in this years Drunkatholon, so far the list is as follows but we do need more entrants so lets see others who are game for a laugh.

Noel
Axewound
Fossil
Airport2
Aunty
Richardb
Threelegcowboy
Johnnie Walker
Mr Munchie
Kiwi Pete
Bagger Bill

As was proved last year, you don’t have to be good at anything!!!
You also don’t have to be a member of Bahtbus.com or Thailand-UK.com, all are welcome. You just need a sense of humour a good heart and preferably a good thirst.

The golf will be much easier on the small 9 hole navy course, 7 par 3’s and 2 par 4’s. None of the above are rated less than a 36 handicap, although I may have to lower mine for knowing a few of the rules.
Kiwi Pete would have a chance if he could stay sober long enough, but anyone that knows him would laugh at that possibility.

10 pin bowling could see the odd bandit show his/her face as a few have been spotted practising, I still think any score over 100 will prove hard to beat though.

Darts, last years winner should pull through again as the rest don’t even have counting skills, then again a few stray arrows could well tilt the balance.

Should our resident pool champion choose to enter then he would be odds on favourite to retain his crown, as it stands at the moment the current line up ensures a free for all.

It doesn’t matter if you’re the worlds worst at one event or for instance, never played golf before (it’s a good chance to have a go). Points are totalled up from all events to determine the Drunkatholon champion. Last years champion didn’t win any events!

It would be good to get 16 entrants in order to avoid byes and push up the share price of Heineken. 32 would be superb, especially so for the Camillian Centre, receiving all of the 2,000 baht for each entrant.
Once again transport will be no problem as we will be retaining the services of at least one minibus for those not wishing to break the drink driving laws.
Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and towel for those taking a shower (or a swim in the pool at the Banesaray Club) after the golf.

PS. Could someone please copy and paste this to our partners on Thailand-UK.com

Sure to be a challenging trip for you Richard.

When you see Fossil, ask him about the bar golf rules I sent him for last year's bash. I think they decided table tennis was easier, but you could always resurrect it as a warm up to the drunkathon. The course and par will need revising though, due to the closure of some bars and the advent of Tiger beer Smiler

Lee,
I'm sure that Richard will write a great trip report on his return from Thailand.
Is there any way that access to the report could only be allowed for those who make a pledge (even if it's just £1) to the Thailand-UK Camillian Centre appeal ?

It could be done Conrad but it's not a route that I would look to take.

I do hope that by having Richards trip report and other posts regarding the work of the camillian centre accessable to all, that this will encourage others to consider supporting the Jaidee appeal in the long term.

Cheers

Just a quick update on the Thailand-UK contribution to the Jaidee appeal in memory of Aom.

To date I have managed to collect from forum members £850 (Bt 61,000).

An excellent effort Smiler Thank you to all who have contributed.

BUT Thailand UK has 1900 members.
And just 26 families have kind enough to donate.

Surely we can greatly improve upon the sum we have collected to date.

Please contact me by PM - or email (lee@thailand-uk.com) if you can help by donating to this cause in support of the work carried out by the Camillian centre.

Members have been sending cheque's, using paypal or just transferring money to the holding account.

No donation is too small - or too large.

Thanks for your time and your help.

Firstly I'd like to say I'm amazed by the fantastic support for the Camillian Center coming from this site. Thanks to you, this years Drunkatholon total is already far greater than we ever imagined.....lets see it get higher!

With only ten days remaining till this years Drunkatholon it’s time to finalise the details.

Transport is available in the form of a mini bus, anyone requiring a hotel/home pickup please p.m. me to arrange time and place.
Remember to bring a towel and change of cloths for after the golf.
Clubs can be hired at the course but they are not very good so pm me if you need a set, I should be able to loan some.

The final agenda, if all goes well, will be as follows:

9:30 am. Meet at the navy 9 hole golf course, Bang Saray for 10am. tee off.
For those driving, go south along Sukhumvit highway to km marker 167 then turn right into the navy compound/barracks and the golf course is 200m on the right.
They do have a driving range for anyone daft enough to think practice will help.
Cost 150 baht per round and 160 baht for the compulsory caddie, an absolute must for carrying your beer.
Drinks are available at the desk and on the course, a good idea would be to bring a drink cooler, aka condom.
Also remember the dress code which is no jeans and shirts must have a collar.

A couple of genuine golfers have threatened to compete but don’t worry, they will be heavily handicapped.

1 pm. Bangsaray Club for lunch and refreshments, showers will be available or you can take a swim in the pool.

3 pm. Ten pin bowling at Soi Zero, Second Road.

The final venue for both 8 ball pool and darts will be the Harley Bar at the Eden Hotel on Soi 17, where we should arrive between 5 and 6 pm.
Food will be laid on compliments of a local businessman, whom I’m told makes the best pies in Pattaya.

The minibus will be on hand to return you safely back to your beds, or wherever else you wish to go.

Again we really do need more contestants in order to avoid too many byes.
So if anyone is in town and game for a very good laugh, while helping those lovely kids that have done nothing to deserve their inflictions, please sign up.
Next weeks Pattaya Mail will contain an article supporting the event and may even produce a few more names but for the moment here is the latest list of probable contenders:

Noel
Axewound
Fossil
Airport2
Aunty
Richardb
Theelegcowboy
Johnnie Walker
Mr Munchie
Kiwi Pete
Bagger Bill
Grandma
The Publican
Matey
Essex
Eddie Baggage
Kristian

I have aquired some very good video footage of Pattaya covering many different aspects, but excluding anything rude!
They have been edited very well, the picture quality is very good and they even have memorable background music.
I can burn these onto CD's which will allow you to play them on your pc, dvd player or any other of the latest gadgets.

I will mail a copy to anyone that makes a donation to the Drunkatholon, just send your address to Lee.
The offer also applies to those that have already kindly made a donation.
