Hi Folks,
I bought a couple of handcarved wooden statues from a Thai-Burma border market at Three Pagodas Pass. My Gal says they are good quality wood but only knows the thai word for the wood used...MYSAC. Does anyone know what the English word is? It looks like Oak to me;but what do I know?? |

mai sak = Teak
Oak transliterates to mai oak Paul พอล เข้าเมืองตาหลิ่วต้องหลิ่วตาตาม |

these teak wood carvings do you know are they carved over the border or carved in thailand from smuggled timber, iam trying to find the woodcarvers in small village just out side of tak these people produce the most fantastic elephants and other animals, the shop that we had purchased from in bkk has to wait 9 months for orders to be completed. sean |

Chugwel,
These were carved on the Thai side of the border.I know this for sure as i watched the guy carving/working .He was Burmese though!. I,m sure people could make a tidy profit exporting these wood statues etc...but as I have no idea how to go about this(and distributing in the Uk!)it,ll have to go on the back burner for now. Way too lovely for a Car boot sale |
