The last time my GF came to stay we tried everywhere in South Wales to get fresh Holy Basil. Chinese/Indian supermarkets etc.I am sure many places do sell it but not under that name.Any ideas on what to ask for as an alternative name. Tesco say they sell it but when you ask locally, you just get a blank look.
Any ideas for a substitute. I know I can buy it from the Thai Supermarket on line but thats a bit over the top if you just want a few things.

ps she arrives next Friday, help!!

I have used 'living' Italian Basil leaves that were 69p from Morrisons. I have also bought soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce (Nampla) and rice too in the past.

Thai in Earl's court will have it or Thai Smile in Hammersmith

Both easier than Chinatown

Thanks for the link, Conrad.

So I had to go and look at 522 - I hope someone can explain it or is a non-Thai's little joke?

Or a plastic imitation of you know what? Eeker

Sevorg, have you tried the Chinese supermarkets on Tudor St in Riverside, Cardiff? I'm sure you'll find it in at least one of the shops there.

Hi Sevorg, Have you got Holy Basil and the end?

I have just got "France Basil" in Tesco it plcae on the shelf that have international ingrdients. I got it in a pot look like plant and they also have in a pack. And that shelf also have chilli from Thailand and other greens.

You may ask them for international ingredients, If you can find them may be have to buy ...shopeed taste... it place on others vegetable with stirfry shelf.
