Anybody with any idea's how I can play a uk dvd in Thailand on a thai vcd machine,(Wedding) Any suggestions, will a dvd machine be best bought in uk or Thailand?

A VCD player is pretty much just a cd player for videos but unfortunately cannot read DVD's. You can get software to 'rip' the DVD then covert and burn them to 1 or 2 cd's which would play in a VCD player.

Buying a cheap DVD player from here or in Thailand would be fine and probably less hassle too.

Thanks for your reply, I have looked at these convertion sites but they seem a bit complicated,(I'm a 70 year old grandmother and slightly nervous doing things I am not confident with I am afraid of losing the wedding on the dvd.

Hi Jen, most modern machines will play both DVD's and VCD's so its very possible your DVD will play just fine in Thailand . In fact just checking on amazon I could not find a single machine for sale that played just VCD's . Could you ask them if they are 100% sure that an ordinary DVD will not play.

If it comes to it buy a cheap £20 DVD machine there.

If you are based near Reading or Coventry then I could burn a backup copy of the DVD and also give you it in VCD format too. I could do the copy of the DVD on a portable so that the original remains with you (you should make a backup anyway), let me know if this is of any use...
