If anyone knows of the best value shops/market to buy some gifts for the in-laws (spend £150-£200).
I know gold has shot up on the commodity markets and feel the need to bargain hunt.
Anywhere on BTS route would be great!

Is there the equivalent of Hatton Garden in BKK??

Also can you haggle?

thanks,

Nick

Gold jewellry is extremely cheap in Thailand as you're basically paying for the metal with little premium for the workmanship. That being the case you will find very little difference in price from one shop to another. For such a small amount I doubt you will receive a discount.

Yaowarat (China Town) has lots of gold shops but its a pain to get to. If you must, go to Hua Lampong (end of MRT) and get a Taxi.

Otherwise, like Keith says, there are jewellers everywhere. They all display the Buy/Sell rate for 1 baht of gold in their windows. Makes shopping around easy but also means that prices all tend to be the same.

The classic decor is a shop with glass front, sign with gold lettering (incl Chinese) and red background.

... and today's baht rate!

Roughly ((150*64.4)/14500) = 66 satang of gold (2/3rds of a baht)

A very skinny bracelet perhaps? Crazy
