Well I got a reply
Banana

Dear respondent,
I am very much hoping that you will be prepared to meet me for
informal interview so that I can find out about your interests in Thai food
and your experiences of travelling to Thailand. As mentioned on my Webpage
anything we discuss will remain confidential and will only be used for
academic analysis.

If you can spare an hour to an hour an a half and it would not be a problem
for you to come along and meet me for a chat over some Thai food, please
can you please reply to this email and we can arrange a time and place to
meet. Anglia Ruskin Unviersity are funding a free meal over which the
interview will take place, if you have anywhere in particular in mind
please do suggest this – bearing in mind the cheaper the meals the more I
can do with the budget. The meal can be anytime that suits you and the
discussion will be very informal.
Banana :

So Where to go?

actually googling her pulls up a few results

Clare Furtado (2004-) Contemporary Orientalism in London's foodscapes (Anglia Ruskin University-funded, with Dr Chris Wilbert)

and

"Abstract

This paper will explore how and why particular ‘imagined’ geographies persist in the production-consumption of Thai cuisine in London, despite annual increases in numbers of tourists from the UK visiting and re-visiting Thailand. The presentation of data is drawn from the analysis of a specific set of consumers of Thai food in London and their responses to the Thai ‘foodscapes’ that have developed in the city. The respondents have previously been ‘backpacking’ in Thailand and as part of an on-going research project have been interviewed in a Thai restaurant of their choosing. Restaurants are spaces of performance, where food is just part of the discourse of the performance, along side décor, marketing material, and the performed identities of the diners and staff that work and consume within them. As a group, backpackers consider their touristic experiences to be closer to the cultures toured, than they perceive mainstream tourists to be. These experiences also encourage the belief that they are ‘taste makers’, in terms of their consumption of ‘ethnic’ food commodities relating to ‘Other’ cultures they have visited. There perceived ‘real’ experiences often derive from pre-conceived ‘myths’ produced and re-produced in tourism literature and food marketing, which are then sought out during touristic experience. This paper looks at the ways in which this process of touristic ‘myth making’ is embedded in the production-consumption of London’s Thai ‘foodscapes’. "

I picked esarn kheaw

What does "Restaurants are spaces of performance, where food is just part of the discourse of the performance"....Supposed to mean?

I did an MA in Sociology...This type of language is just academic twaddle...

If she just said...I'm researching people's attitude to Thai food...I could understand it...But if you actually read her abstract...It doesn't really make any sense or pose a pertinent question...

She's just saying "Backpackers think they have a more "authentic" experience of Thai food, whereas most Thai restuarants are just re-creating stereotypical images of Thailand..."

So what?

I made the arrangments for last week and sent email to arrange another time but as yet no reply
Hi David,
I have just been reminded I have a family committment on Saturday, I didn't
put it in my work diary, I do apologise.

I could do Friday early evening instead, but it would need to be in central
London somewhere, as I have to take my son up to meet his father after
work. Am I right in thinking that you work in London. I could meet you
near to where you work. Obviously if your not free Friday then maybe we
can try another day. Lunch is also a possiblity.

Again, I do apologise for not realising I had this prior engagement but I
hope it won't be too much of a problem for another time.

Thank you.

Well not free grub ... but I had this one passed on to me today which could save you a few quid.

http://www.vouchercodes.org/

Cheers
Lee

ps - on the above site the £20 wine voucher from Tesco doesn't work BUT if you ring 0800-505555 (CUSTOMER SERVICES)
The lady told me there was a problem with that code but I should go ahead and order a case anyway. when it arrives I have to ring the same number, refer to the code again and the £20 will be refunded back to my card.
