Following on from the "Another Brit killed in Thailand", I thought I'd relate what's that what is going on in Uttaradit is not too good for dogs either.
Pook's father came home from a hospital appointment today, and found that one of his dog's was missing. This is the third dog that's gone bye byes in 6 months. The last one was seen on the back of a pickup presumably heading in the direction of Issan, where they fetch 1200 bahts as BBQ meat. There was never any trace of the first dog - whose name was Lucky. |

When Iang came to the UK, her family sent 7 of her 8 dogs to the pet food factory. And I don't think it was for a free feast!
And my first wife, Jit, came from a village only a few km away from a notorious dog meat market, which I believe is in Sakhon Nakhon province. As far as I can see, and contrary to popular belief, not everyone in isaan eats dog meat - the people in the small area where they do are looked on as a bit freakish! |

Here we go again! |
My wife's from Sakhon Nakhon, apparently black dogs taste the best!
It is locally known as heaven meat, so she tells me. Also in areas where it's sold, the traders often keep the head to prove it's the real deal, which is nice, yum yum! She however, has never eaten dog & never will and doesn't really know any people who do. As Ian says, it's definitely not widespread. Rob ร็อบ |

Are you insinuating that Lucky was stupid ? I'll have you know that Lucky was, well, just plain unLucky. However, in the spirit of cameraderie, I'm prepared to let sleeping dogs |

Hey! I may well be stupid but last time I looked I was still alive
If anyone is planning on eating my wife's dog they better beware, her revenge would be a life for a life, they would be better off killing me, mind you I'd be a bit chewy Lucky |

Not that I was a fan of this particular family dog (it was flea bitten and agressive)I was still upset
When I asked Mook why some dogs fetch 1200 baht and our dog only fetched 2 x washing up bowls? She just looked at me as if i was stupid and said " this dog, not make good sausage" What could I say, I was speechless. |

So how much do you think a proper sausage dog is worth ? |

They must breed 'em stupid then, because one of the first things I noticed when I was travelling through Vietnam was the absence of the ubiquitous 'soi dogs'. Then I saw a specialist dog restaurant with the appetising window display of a dog splayed out with a pig-style apple in its mouth and things made more sense! Only eaten dog once to my knowledge, in Buriram, though I wasn't told until afterwards, by which time I had already spoken enthusiastically about the barbecue so ... I do remember sitting having some roadside noodle soup one day (pork! I think .....) when a pickup went past and there was a screech of brakes from further up the road. A few minutes later the pickup returned and one of the passengers carried a freshly dead dog into the restaurant. As we left it was already being skinned! Gordie T Geordie |

Is that site a wind up or is it real. Here's a recipe from their associated website www.kittybeef.com. What the heck did mushroom soup do to deserve this
Beer Roasted Cat 1 cat cut into roast 1 can of ****ing Cream of Mushroom soup 1 cube of beef bouillon 1 clove of garlic 1 Fine Irish Stout, like Guinness Cover and soak cat roast in salt water for 24 hours. Drain water and then cover and soak in beer for 6 hours. Drain and place in crock pot with your cans of soup. Add a clove of garlic, and a cube of beef bouillon. If you start to slow cook your cat in the morning with your George Foreman Cooker (or it's ilk), you'll have finely cooked feline in time for supper. If a slow cooker is not available, a cat can be baked at 350 degrees for 2-3 hours in a conventional oven and still come out pretty good. Beer Roasted Cat is fantastic served with mashed potatoes, collard greens, and fresh, homemade egg rolls. When planning a full meal just remember- cat is a course best served hot! Cat may not be the most glamorous, or tastiest of game meats, but with a little thought and preparation, Baked Cat can make the belly of the persnicketiest diner glow with home baked goodness. |

Whilst we were in England a few years back, our dog in Thailand got run over by a truck. Our neighbour was quick to fetch the roadkill and had a BBQ with his mates. At first I was a tad annoyed but then just accepted it. After all there are millions who won't eat beef/pork etc.
Personally I could not eat dog, and I think its relatively rare in Thailand, certainly where I live in the North. ...and never eat the 'meat' dishes in Indian restaurants |

I prefer my dog medium rare or well done. Ian |

My wife mentioned only the other day that she could not believe that some English people eat rabbit. Seems it on the menu at the local restaurant.

I don't think it's an advert Colin. It's so people don't waste too much time looking for Bonzo |
