I ,m off to los in a couple of weeks, and packing yellow shirt but been told this maybe considered bad form/offensive. Should I leave it behind and buy black shirt instead.

Why do some wear blue instead of yellow.

Not bad form at all, plenty of people wearing yellow on a Monday again now. Black was only widespread for the first 15 days, it's been mixed since.

Not seen blue, but pink was very popular after the King adorned a pink suit, apparently for good luck, following his recovery from hospital. Didn't tempt me though.

You may wear a different colour for each day of the week.

Don't pack it with your shoes.

Blue is the colour for the Queen as she was born on a Saturday. Some blue T shirts bear her royal isignia

Is this thread for real ?

Is there seriously a suggestion that the colour of the shirt you wear would be considered offensive ? Not where I live in LOS...you can wear what you like without fear of causing any offence whatsoever.

I read somewhere that the King thought the pink shirt thing a little silly. I would tend to agree with him.

A pity he didn't tell the shops at the Palace in Bangkok - they have them in great quantity there ...

Not at all. The OP was referring to the mourning period for the late sister of the King, Princess Galyani Vadhana. Wearing bright colours may have caused offence in the few weeks following her death but, in answer to the original question, that is no longer the case.

Paul, yes I realise that and certainly not wishing to be disrespectful to those who wished to wear black (or at least avoid bright colours) if they felt so inclined at that time, I was in LOS when she died and there were plenty of people wearing their normal range of all the colours of the rainbow, and I did not witness any suggestion that this was disrespectful.

I guess it varied from place to place, I can only go by my experiences here where there was an immediate explosion of black. I doubt ex-pats would have been castigated for their apparel but I think the majority of those normally inclined to dress in bold colours chose to tone it down, at least a little, for a couple of weeks.
