For those not following the tennis, the girls' final is between Brit Laura Robson and Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (from Chiang Mai).

Currently on BBC One and BBC HD. Somewhat one-sided commentary, but I guess that's expected.

LOL My wife got quite animated and incensed at the cheers the crowd gave to the Brit - I tried explaining that they were naturally biased as a Thai crowd would be - yet she would have none of it - unfair advantage she thought Shrug

I'm Danish so I do not care either way Big Grin

I watched the match yesterday ... excellent! Both players played very well. At 1-1 sets it could have gone either way.

I thought it amusing the way both players reacted to the ability to use Hawkeye, obviously for the first time in their lives. And both used it to good effect, successfully getting some line calls overturned.

Laura Robson will go far, and I am sure we have not heard the last of Noppawan Lertcheewakarn either. But she really does need to do a lot of work on her serve.

She was born in Australia but left for the UK when she was very young. However, her name is a bit out of place amongst recent successful British tennis players.

Good old British names like Rusedski, Baltacha, Keeatavong....afraid Robson doesn't really ring true!!

Seriously though, great to see Laura do so well. And great also to see a world class Thai youngster coming through. Did you watch Tamarin Tanasugarn earlier in the week? So good!! By the way whatever happened to Paradorn?

Yes, I also saw her play. She also did incredibly well. She was at no. 60 before Wimbledon, so is bound to improve on that.

Paradorn? I cannot see any reference to him having retired but on searching the rankings down to no. 1687 (!) his name does not appear. Highest placed Thai male is now Danai Udomchoke, at no. 178.

After Tamarin Tanasugarn played so well at Wimbledon she has moved up from world no. 60 to no. 37.

Best British player now Anne Keothavong at no. 82. Such a British sounding name, that! (Whilst born in London .... Father is Somsak, mother is Vathana; ... Speaks English and Laotian)

And in the men's tennis, Andy Murray is now at no. 9, from no. 11.

I was suggesting that since she needs to work on her serve ,she hadn't much experience in serving of any sort thats all, nothing crude or derogatory meant, just a simple play on words.

However if someone wishes to discuss her fine backhand maybe this should be moved to departure lounge to avoid upsetting anyone else.
