From BBC News online
====================== Pair face Thai child sex charges Two Britons have been charged with sex offences against minors in Thailand. Stephen James Ellison, 54, was charged with raping a girl under the age of 15, Thai police told Reuters. Maurice John Praill, 76, was charged with attempting to rape a girl, aged under 15. Both men also face charges of sexual molestation against minors. The pair, said to be from London, were arrested with a US citizen and a Finnish national in the southern beach resort of Pattaya. Col Jaruwat Waisaya said the Britons had pornographic photos and recorded material of their assaults on their victims. Glenn Richard Allen, 60, from Seattle, and Ilkka Ylikolola, 63, from Finland, were charged with sexual molestation. These people have been charged with a crime not found guilty of one. If they are indeed found guilty by a Thai judge then they deserve the appropriate punishment under Thai law but the previous posters knee jerk reaction smacks of vigilanteeism and mob rule. We may all consider ourselves decent law-abiding citizens incapable of commiting such heinous crimes but who knows what can befall us on our travels abroad (or in this country for that matter- just look at the recent case of the woman who committed suicide after being wrongly accused of killing her sons). If we have been accused of breaking the law we all should expect to have the right to a fair trial rather than being paraded out on display for the benefit of the gutter press and TV (as so often happens in Thailand) with the presumption of guilt before judicial proceedings have been allowed to run their course. Where's the justice in that?

If this is a reference to former solicitor Sally Clark, then the jury is also still out on this one. An inquest was told that Sally probably died of natural causes but more tests are needed to find a definitive cause of death. The inquest in to her death is adjourned to a later date. Just like the alleged paedophiles, let's not make presumptions of guilt. This poor woman more-than-likely died of a broken heart. Tobias - โทเบียส |
