I thought he looked a very frail old man at the funeral of his sister today. Jumpa was shocked and very upset at the pictures of him struggling to walk un-aided. Quite upsetting to see.

I'm also quite surprised that the title of this post totally omits his title, which I think is a very disrespectful. If no disrespect was intended, as I'm sure it wasn't, then maybe you could amend it and then a mod could remove this post

remove a post by an Englishman showing concern about the health of the King of Thailand, for what reason, because i failed to post Rama IX, get a grip man !!!

Obviously your more concerned about his correct title than his poor health, a tad more disrespectful in my opinion.

Keith was asking for his own post to be removed should the title be amended.

My wife was also shocked by his frailty.

PS, For what it's worth - I have no problem with the title used by the OP.

Sometimes I wonder how this easily offended country won two major world wars.

I'm not in the least bit offended. I just thought it a little disrespectful to refer to him as if he were a commoner. If no one else does, then no problem.

For what it's worth, I agree with Keith. At the very least you'd put 'King' before his name. Just as you'd not write 'Elizabeth' but 'Queen Elizabeth'.

How ridiculous and petty.
He deserves respect of course, based on the fact that he is an honest and decent person who has earned that respect throughout his long reign, not for his royal status which he had the fortune to have been born with.
An honest and decent toilet cleaner deserves as much respect.
As has been stated the OP would not have started this post if had anything other than concern for the King's health.

I'm sure N Barton intended no offence, quite the contrary in fact. Can we move away from arguing over this aspect and concentrate on the real issue of the topic, the apparent frailty of the Thai King.

P.S. To avoid this issue raising up again, I've amended the Topic heading to 'King Bhumibol Adulyadej' so we can focus on the main issue and not be distracted by apparent offence that was clearly never intended. I really don't see what all the fuss is about, hopefully this will resolve it.

Thanks for that Tobias and sorry for dragging it out, but ..... and once again no offence meant, lets not forget that his mother, the late Princess Mother Srinagarindra, was born a commoner. I am sure that His Royal Highness has never forgotten his mothers roots and maybe this plays a big part in his popularity.

And actually Marcus, while iam still peed off, i think you will find that our Queen is quite often affectionately referred to as 'Lizzie' with no offence meant or taken.

It will be interesting to see what happens on Dec 5th, Will he be well enough to speak at his audience or maybe they might just release a statement of his annual speech.

Long Live The King.

Sure, that's true. Good point. I'm not so sure that Thais refer to their king in quite the same way though, and so it would be an idea to follow the Thai way when refering to the Thai king on the Thailand-UK site.

But, yes, I might be completely wrong and - if so - stand corrected.

All the best,

Marcus

Marcus ,I am sure you are correct. No Thai would be so familiar with their King's name as to shorten it further than the official sanction.
Familarity and lack of deference seems to be a way of British life but not for the Thais whose culture is still based of deference for others, especially for those they consider more than themselves.

However my post is not meant to say anything to annoy N Barton who is acting in a British fashion and meant no disrespect to the King of Thailand or anyone else I am equally sure.

Chaps, again, this topic is about the apparent frailty of the Thai King, if you wish to continue the debate about his title and what he should be called then please feel free to start a new topic. Any more on this thread will be deleted. After all, the King's health is a very serious issue which will cause concern for many members here.

The king certainly looked very frail on Saturday evening, couldn't even keep on the red carpet. Surprised that no Aides helped him along.
Tonight,Monday evening,at a merit making ceremony, the kng was agin walking awkwardley. My wife wasn't happy that again there were no Aides around him in case he needed help.
When he approached the Buddha to kneel,an official pointed to the camera and waved his hand in a "No" gesture, and the camera then was lowered to the ground.A couple of minutes later the camera returned to showing the king.
Very frail indeed, after his illnesses in the last year.
