If you call this USA company they will connect you with free calls to many international destinations...
www.futurephone.com
Because the call to USA costs only 0.5p/min with 18185, this seems a cheap alternative. I have used it a few times and line quality was very good. This might be because of time difference and fewer calls being squeezed down the lines.

Ok I give up, whats the 18185 bit??

I'm sure that's the dumb question of the day, but I don't know what the 18185 number is...

Cheers,

Phillip

I have a broadband connection and used to use Skype (with a USB phone = that cost me £8.99) but I have switched to gizmoproject (http://www.gizmoproject.com)

To call a mobile phone in Thailand is £0.02 per minute and the line is very clear, Cat recently called her mum for over an hour and it only cost me about £1.20.

YOU CAN ALSO PHONE MOBILE TO MOBILE FREE
If your Thai family has access to a computer the calls are free (PC to PC) which is a bit like how Skype works, but, that's OK if they have broadband/PC access too. Gizmoproject has an even better offer. You can call Gizmo users MOBILE to MOBILE free. How it works is this:

Open an account (download it for free and install it on your machine) use it to call people at least once a week even if it for only a few seconds (this keeps your account 'active') and register a mobile phone in the settings. If the person in Thailand does the same you can call each other's mobile numbers for free. As long as you both use Gizmoproject at least once a week you get to keep calling the mobile number for free, so the person in Thailand doesn't need broadband, just the ability to log into a PC once a week.

At the moment, I can't get Cat's family to set-up an account, until I personally show them how it's done, so I can't take advantage of the free mobile to mobile service but even so, just phoning direct to their mobile through Gizmoproject is still only .02p per minute.

It works on MacOSX too.

You can make free calls to Thai mobile if you have an O2 contract phone using this access no. 0844 629 2345.

But this only works from the UK.
For other countries including remote countries like Russia, best use http://www.card4anywhere.net/?AG=349

Hope this helps.

Hi pgcon,

If you have a mobile with free minutes and its through Orange, you can get FREE calls by dialling 07744200004!

I think another Network works as well, but cant remember which one.

Not really Ron, some networks charge 75p for those numbers - depends on network and tariff type.

Yes I know some charge Tobias, I just said mine doesn't (Orange).
In another post somewhere on here, another member said he could make free calls with his X-minutes to LOS on that number, but cant remember which network he had.

Its no use checking with them if they do, they will say no you cant. Just make a 1 minute call using the number and check your bill when it arrives.

The number is 0844 555 0131 David - if you are using the o2 tariff it will mean those calls are included in your free minutes. You'll find more information about the service here.

Every little helps keep the forum going Thumbs Up

PS But do not use it if it's rainning here cos the line is very very bad then.

Don't overlook the fact that the Voipdiscount rate to Thailand is still 0.0p! And that is for calls to either Thai landlines or mobiles.

All you need to do is to throw €10 into your account about 3 times a year, but even that credit can be used for chargeable calls like to 0870 numbers.

PS Free calls to UK landlines ... starting 01 or 02 ... as well.

I've been using a company called Jajah for a couple of weeks. The line quality is excellent. Here are the details:
quote:
Jajah is available without registration, contracts, downloads or a headset. Users simply visit the website, enter their own phone number and the destination number (mobile or landline, UK or international) and click 'call'.

The caller's phone and the recipient's phone then both ring. The caller picks up the handset, and the call is connected.

Unlike leading VoIP provider Skype, Jajah does not remove the cost of phone calls altogether. However, tariffs are significantly lower than with traditional telecoms providers.

Give it a shot, you can try it out for FREE!
