Hi,

Just to let anyone interested know. I just got a text stating that if I sign a new O2 contract or upgrade my phone 0844 numbers will no longer be able to be used as part of my inclusive minutes.
Cheers.

I just recieved a letter off o2 that the numbers affected begin with.

500 0550 0554 0558 0808 0844 0873 800 05511 0555 059 0808125 0845 808 05516 0556 056 0820 0870 0500 0553 0557 0800 0843 0872.

All of these numbers will now no longer be able to be used with your free minutes, all calls to these numbers will be charged at 20 pence per minute, we pay £35 per month for 600 free minutes, I think now is the time to change our contract and go on the cheap one with no free minutes and get one for about £15 per month.

hello hope it is ok to post this here as i was going to post this anyway until i saw this thred already started.

I was making a phone call to an 0845 number on my 02 mobile which has free inclusive minutes .my phone call was for about 30 minutes at 1300 hours yesterday 28th august .Shortly after my phone call had finnished at 1336 28th sept i got the folowing message from 02 staing the following.02 fron sept call starting with certain numbers eg 0844&0845will be charged outside your incl.min.&cost20p?min dettail 02.co.uk

Now i am aware that they can change the inclusive minutes even if it is unfair ,but to text me the information on the same day they bring it in is wrong espcialy since i had spent about 30 mins on a call prior to being aware of this increase .I am upset to say the least as i never go over my free minutes as my 35 pound a month is the most i am prepared to pay for a mobile bill ,so i am careful not to go over my minutes .I contacted 02 about this they offered to cancel my contract which is not what i want as i am on a cashbak deal from dial a phone and cannot cancel. All I wanted was them to confirm they would not charge me for the 30 minute phone call i made when i was not aware of the change of conditions .I except the fact from now on i can not use 0845 as part off my free minutes as i am now aware and will call these numbers on my landline from now on .I just think that they should not charge me for the 0845 number I called before i was informed .02 where very unhelpful and told me to call back fridy when they would let me know if That call has been charged for as it would take a few days for to info to show up .The lady agreed it was unfair but says there is nothing she can do if it is charged for .If on friday when I call on friday and if I have been charged what can i do? as this is a matter of principle and totatly unfair .It is like buying a buy one get one free at tesco only to get home and check your bill only to of been charged for both items .

Any adivce of what i can say to 02 on friday when i call them back as i suspect I of will of been charged for these calls .Thank you

hi if you got the same text i got it said the new charge would start from the 28th of next month ie september,i am sure they are obliged to give notice so you should not be charged, if you are and you feel it was unfair contact the teleco regulator OFCOM and they will deal with your complaint

o2 will impose these new charges from 28 September. However, calls to o2's own 08 numbers will remain free when called from an o2 monthly tariff.

Don't waste time complaining, you won't have been charged for the call.

Vodafone targets call abroad market
source: mobiletoday.co.uk Mon 3 September 2007

Vodafone has launched a new promotion for its UK pay-as-you-go customers, offering low-cost calls to 16 other countries until April 2008.

From 1 September 2007, Vodafone UK prepay customers will be able to make calls to friends and family in China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Lithuania, Latvia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Thailand and Turkey for 5p per minute. Calls made to mobiles in these countries will cost 15p per minute.

Analysts at Ovum said: 'If the promotion is successful, we should expect further initiatives aimed at positioning Vodafone more favourably in the 'ethnic' segment, either directly or through the launch of MVNOs, for example. The potential here goes beyond minutes: the potential for content and value-added services revenues should also be taken into account.'

Carphone Warehouse's Mobile World MVNO now has nearly 500,000 users, while Orange's Call Abroad, a prepaid Sim-only offer targets the prepaid international callers.

Ovum said: 'Vodafone's promotion is more attractive, however, as it does not require a separate Sim to benefit from lower calls.'

'Some customers will now save 96% of their previous costs,' said Tim Yates, chief marketing officer.

It's nice that they offered to cancel your contract. When I called up they said I couldnt cancel as I have a contract for a nother 13 months. I cannot go down ot the £15 a month contract, I can only go down to the £25 a month one and then only in December.

Basically the guy told me that my contract says that they would charge me for these calls but it is only now that they are doing so. Only people that signed last year until a certain month are not getting charged he said.

I said that all i would do is sit out my contract and then go elsewhere because basically they weren't providing me with the service that i need. He just kept saying that they have the right to do it. I asked him why and he said because all the others were charging. I laughed and said so that means you have to and then he changed tact.

Basically like a poster above I don't go over my contract nor go over my minutes. One of my main reasons for signing was that i could use it on 0844\5 numbers. i guess next time I will have to sit down and read every single page of the contract. ( I know you should but who really does)...

I have been a customer of O2 for years and it's not really the fact that they are charging me for it, if i signed for it that's my fault it is just hte sheer arrogance and the fact that they don't care abotu my opinion. Never o2 again.

maybe best option is 18185 which you can dial an access number which i believe is is free to call from inclusive minutes 02 and then you just pay 18185 the 1 p a minute separately .the number is 02081802828 you must register and please do make sure the number is included in the inclusive minutes which i believe it is .

So today i had a bit of spare time. I decided to read the small print in the contract. It actually states that if O2 change the terms to the detriment of me i have 30 days from when they tell me to give them 30 days notice that i wish to cancel my contract. I won't need to carry on paying the contract and if done within the 30 day period i won't have to pay a cancellation charge. I decided to call up and ask them to clarify and this is correct. Basically the guy before completely lied to me when tleling me i couldnt cancel and had to sit it out. I just wish i had his name so that I could make a complaint. Moron

oh yeah the reason the woman on the phone gave today for the fact that they are starting to charge for 0845/0844 numbers is because some people, some cheeky scum of the earth, are using their free contract minutes to phone a gateway and MAKE INTERNATIONAL CALLS from their mobiles. How very dare they!

db1,

Aom and I have been using the service that Biowan mentions (18185) for a few years now without any problems and with a massive saving on phone bills. We use it to call mobile phones in Chonburi and Deepest village issan and can't fault it. Monthly bills are around the £4.00 mark. When switched to TalkTalk the 18185 shortcut stopped working and so we use the 0208 number instead.

When you register you give them your card number and telephone number, receive monthly itemised biiling via email and we have never been mischarged.

http://www.18185.co.uk/index2.php

There is a call connection charge as well as per the minute charge, think it is currently 4p connection and 1ppm, but this is mentioned on the site.
