Hiya all, i've just bought a GT-1900u USB cordless phone
so the missus can roam around the house whilst she's talking to her folks via VopiDiscount in LOS. I've installed the software and when i opened the program, the drop down menu gave me these options: SKYPE/NET2PHONE/MSN Messenger/SJ PHONE but no VoipDiscout. I just wondered if anybody has any idea as to whether it can be configured to use VoipDiscount or have i bought a pig-in-a-poke |

I use voipdiscount. I think it is very good. I just checked the spec of the software on their site and it only supports a soundcard at the moment.
I am going to email them to ask them to modify it to use with a USB phone as I can see that would be of use to me also. Why dont you do the same and if they get enough requests I think they will incorporate it. Looks like at the moment you will have to use a head set. |

Lucky I didn't read that spec! Because in this house both Nat & I have got VoIP phones that plug into USB port ... and we both regularly use VoIPDiscount! John |

What's wrong with using the Voip Discount direct call facility.
You pay 5 cents (sorry, we are in Europe) connection charge and then the call is free to LOS. You use your own domestic landline phone. 5 cents a call up sounds cheaper to me than buying a special phone. That's our experience here in Portugal... sorry if it's different for you guys there in the UK. Mam and John nao faz mal means mai pen rai |

JohnB, many thanks for that. We have used VoIPDiscount for ages and never appreciated that such a facility was there.
However, as regards "5 cents a call up sounds cheaper to me than buying a special phone.", probably yes, but having the special phone and using VoIPDiscount in the regular way means both Nat & I can be on the phone at the same time, but we have just one telephone line at this house. Ian, regarding your message on the 26th, taking a closer look at the VoIPDiscount applet, it is possible to make a switch from a sound card to USB. Click on the Settings button in the VoIPDiscount applet and you will see what I mean. And Tony & Na, if you have not solved your problem yet, suggest you go to the www.voipdiscount.com website and install their program. That will hopefully get round your little problem. John |

I click on settings and get the following options on the left of the screen. General, Privacy, Notifications, Sound devices, Hotkeys, Connection, Advanced and Call settings. The only one that seems to be the correct one is "Sound devices", but, there is only my sound card available in the drop down ( for both sets of Audio in and Out). Is this where you select your USB phone ? |

I thought it must be that one. I will get a USB phone and see if it appears in the drop down when it is plugged in.
Thanks for your help. |

Happy to correct my own posting above, VoipDiscount does indeed work with a USB phone. I plugged in the USB phone, XP home picked it up and their is now a "Usb phone" on the drop down available.
John, can you dial out using your USB phone, or, do you initiate the call with the applet then use the phone just to talk and listen ? |

Ian, I "initiate the call with the applet then use the phone just to talk and listen". Indeed, thinking about it, I have never used the buttons on the phone. If you work out a way to do that, do please let me know.
