Just thought I would mention the way I have been calling Thailand using the 0844 number.
Using a BT landline to Thai mobile costs 1p per minute and to Thai landline 0.5p per minute.

Same price anytime of day, no other charges, no registration fees, no pin number and very goog quality. It's really good. All you do is dial the appropriate number below depending if you want a Thai mobile or landline. You will hear a message telling you the cost that the call will be. Then you dial the Thai number prefixing it with 0066 plus the number you want without the 0 and push #

Thai mobile dial 0844 861 2121
Thai landline dial 0844 200 8585

Here's the web address for more details

http://www.0844calls.co.uk/index2.php

Hope that helps reduce those phone bills!

Taken from the "How does it work ?" page

Our access numbers are available from BT, Telewest and NTL landlines, mobile phones, pay phones and other call providers.

So yes cable phone lines are supported.

Has anyone tried telewest?

I phoned to ask about this and they told me no, it would cost a lot more. As a temp measure, paid £3 per month to get "cheaper" international calls whilst deciding what to do and they have now written to say they may restrict our usage!

Was heading back to BT but I think I will give it a go and check the cost, will report back.

Although not necessarily at the stated 1p per minute!

Well its been a while, but I said I would report back on this. Telewest/NTL now Virgin something or other told me that they could/would not confirm they would honour the prices quoted for using the 0844 numbers, as they couldn't guarentee it, but as others have since posted, they do, thank goodness.

I also contacted T-Mobile and was told 0844 numbers are charged at 20p per minute, 1.30 if dialling direct. Which was handy for when we were away last week.

You might like to look at Call 18185 and register on that.

Note that it is 1p per minute to phone Thailand, and one of the UK access numbers is a 0208 number, which might be included in your free call allowance?

I have posted this information before but it seems topical again. I always use the website below to check on cheap rate calls to Thai mobiles.
This chap is hell bent on getting something over on the big companies and has lots of useful information other than cheap phone calls.
The numbers are frequently updated with the latest cheap access numbers, so worth checking back if the one you are using goes up in price.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Iana, yes this one does work for 1p pm.

I dont know about anyone else but these 0844 numbers, the greetings message all sound like the same woman?

I reckon could be the same company under different guises. Im finding im having to swop every now and again to keep on the 1p pm tariff but it can be done so dont pay anymore than 1 p pm , just a bit of shopping around and ofcourse valuable advice from this great website....

Adam.
