When Su first arrives @ Bangkok next Friday... she will have her UK mobile which is on orange 'pay as u go' (Nokia 6230i).... once turned on will this connect to the Thai mobile network and work ok Shrug (every time done this before have used my contract orange and no probs, wasnt sure if different with PAG?)

Once she has got to Surin.... she'll go and stick a DTAC sim in there Nod It's just for that first initial bit of getting off the plan and trying to find her brother who is picking her up (It's her first time travelling alone so may be a bit dawnting Roll Eyes)

Thank you Smiler

Hi

Should not be a problem. I'm pay as you go with O2. Phone always works fine, maybe just check with Orange the the phone is set up to roam as once when I was in OZ mine didn't roam, o2 told me on my return that I should I called them to set up roaming but that was about 6 years ago.
There is an Orange network in Los,the Wife uses it when she is in the village as reception on AIS is not to good there.
Just Beware that it will cost a mint to make calls with a UK sim.
Oh and if she is going to use the Orange phone make sure it's unlocked so it will work with another networks sim card.

Some excitement last nite that side of the estuary I hear!

Orange pulled out of Thailand a few years ago. They were in partnership with the Charoen Pokphand Group who now operate the network alone under the name True Move.

Thanks guys... sounds promising, will give orange a buzz just to make sure all set up ok for roaming etc Nod

And just another thing want to make sure of, and one more less complication to worry about........ when Su turns phone on in Bangkok should it just set itself onto the relevant network and it will be ready to use (in settings have got it set to operator selection - automatic).....know it will probably be ok, but just need bit of reassurance (its just Su isnt too good at finding her way round all the settings on the mobile - we've gotta a Thai mobile on the list of things to buy when I get out there a month later) Cool

When you get there have it unlocked and use a thai sim card,it only cost about 400 baht at mbk. I was only talking yesterday to my mate and he took his pay as you go phone and he put £50 on it and it lasted a week. And if she as her phone unlocked at least her phone will have all her numbers on it.
