Maybe if you don't register it, you won't get the 50 baht per month Mervyn?..........Would be a neat trick on the part of DTAC. Big Grin

very true, but I have the greatest respect for Dtac as when I lost my phone I went to their office in Sarichar and they gave me the same number back on a pay as you go as I lost with the phone including all my credit. that was within a day more than you can get in the UK !

Hi all, especially Mervyn & Flip,

A bit off the track of this thread, but info worth considering, AIS are coming on in leaps and bounds now in regards to updating their technology. I recently upgraded my mobile phone to a Sony Ericsson P910i, bought it in MBK Centre Bangkok (25K) and obviously wanted the full potential of the phone, e.mail, GPRS, Internet etc. I was already with AIS, but GSM1800, quite outdated. Through a friend's wife who works at AIS I was directed to their office in Sri Ratcha and what a difference it made, opened up many doors and it is all there on the web once one knows.

I switched to AIS GSM Advance and it is brill, I can do anything. Yes, it took a little time to sort things out, passport, marriage certificate etc, but once completed you get log on and pass keys to get into the system, better than BT in UK by far. Everything in English, you can speak to English advisors, speaking better English than my Scouse!!!!

You can see an example by visiting http://www.ais.co.th/eng/intro_green.htm
and proceeding onto the hyperlink
http://www.gsmadvance.com/e/main.aspx

If it all comes up in Thai, just look for the English Language hyperlink on the page.

Unless you have an account and the entrance log-on set-up, well you won't be able to go any further. However, once you do have these faculties, you can do anything, view your bills, bank or credit card payments, every aspect of your requirements are there, including setting up your personal requirements, all communications, fliers or voice in English, I am really impressed at their progress, so try it out guys. Hope it helps some of you.

Flip....Hope you enjoyed your break at Kho Chang and managed to shake off the trots. Take care bud, hope to see you out again soon...........RayBan

I was staying with friends in Bangkok this Xmas/New Year just gone. The sim card cut off point was supposed to be midnight on New Years eve....it never happend. Wan & I went to register our phone a few days later & were told by staff at the DTAC office in Central Pinklao that the registration cut off point had been put back a year. We then heard a day or so afterwards that the idea has now been shelved. How correct that last bit of info is I don't know...but there's no rush it would appear. This registration "rule" had applied to Thai & Falang alike we were told. Maybe folk returning from their hols in the coming days/weeks will be able to update this info if need be.

On the registration side of things I think it depends upon where you buy, within the last two weeks I bought one sim (one to call)at 7-11 and they wanted ID(thai driving license no prob) to purchase the sim and in BigC they said no problem no ID needed purchasing the sim (DTac) plenty of time to register as I asked if the sim would be ok to work for a period of three months. So it seems as if the terrorists should be going to BigC. Before you say what do I need so many sims for, they are for friends who previously have used UK sim cards over here to recieve calls and been ripped off by the UK providers (T-Mobile £1.35 per minute just to recieve and £1.50 per min to make a local call).

Looks like Thaksin is about to get rid of his "conflict of interest" over this issue.
