Hi Colin

No, those services use UK access numbers, the same numbers can't be dialled from Thailand. If you dial 08 something from Thailand you'd end up calling someone's mobile phone.

The easiest way I've found to call the UK from Thailand is simply by dialing 009 44 ......

The 009 service is provided by CAT. It costs ฿7.49 per minute from most landlines and a fraction more from mobile phones.

008 is a similar service, from ToT, but it's not quite as reliable of late. That currently costs ฿6.42 per minute.

007 is another one provided by ToT. It's more expensive than the other two, but generally better quality.

001 - forget it. Too expensive.

With all the above, you just dial the number direct, e.g. 009 44 1511234567. There's no set-up or registration involved.

If you call from a Thai landline or contract mobile phone you'll also get an itemised bill. Good proof of contact for those contemplating applying for visas.

Hi Guys,

I am interested in this, like many looking for cheap ways to call Europe.
The cheapest seems to be SKYPE, its free if both are registered with SKYPE.
However it needs to computer literate people with computers.

What about dialling the 009 or the 008 numbers from a Thai mobile phone. Will it cost the same plus the cost of the local Thai call? Or does it have to be a private landline only?

Regards

Not sure about the 008 number but I know you can use the 009 from a Thai mobile and it costs the same as from a landline number.

Thanks for all the information guys. I am just having a telephone line installed so I think I'll get CAT to do it and use their 009 service, seems reasonable enough.
