Had a call yesterday from someone saying that they worked for DialAround (providers of one of the 1p / 2p per minute access numbers). They were aware that I had used their service in the past and wanted to send me updated info on access numbers and rates, but this info would only be sent out by mail and would not be available online. I refused to give them my address on principle ( and find it hard to believe that the info won't end up online). Anyone else had such a call ?
Every three months or so they can keep on asking why I do not use them any more......easy 1 or 2p per min else where. But they still keep trying to promote special offers etc.
Just registered with TPS - Thanks for the link !

TPS is a great way for reducing calls from legit UK marketing companies who respect industry codes of practices.
I'm not sure about where Dialaround is based or whether or not registering with TPS would make a difference (I recall posts from the mods of this forum expressing concerns about the legitimacy of the owners, etc..).
I'm not saying Dialaround is dodgy, merely that TPS may not stop *all* marketing calls.
Personally, i use 141 before any 08xx service. I realise this doesn't help if you're already receiving calls from them though.

If it is a telephone network who provides the 08 or 09 service then withholding your number or using 141 will not stop your telephone number being presented to the network. The network is forbidden by law from using the call data for any purpose other than for its own billing purposes - but I know that some of the 'cheap' call carriers and some of the less scrupulous calling card networks actually do use the callers data to solicit business either by text message or by telephone.

I accept this is a small diversion of topic but anyone thinking of registering with TPS might also like to consider completing the double by also registering with the Mailing Preference Service.
It works wonderfully, after a month or two, and cuts down on junk mail significantly.
