why not use orange broadband with free VOIP to thai landlines? Unfortunatelly not to mobiles but if the family has a landline it is very cheap to make very long calls from home to home. And we need the broadband anyway

Having posted recently on here about using my Orange Inclusive minutes to call Bangkok i went with the 07744 option, and this is what i have found out.

Its Rubbish.

On average it takes 6 attempts to connect to the service, when i dial our apartment number in Bangkok i get the operator ( recorded ) at which point you enter our room number and should be connected, but we never are.

O n the odd occasion i do get through it sounds like a vox operated line ( only works when one of you talks ) you can hear yourself speak in the background, and the line quality is a best poor. Now i should not be complaining really as after all it is free, ( Dialliang 150 on your Orange phone will tell you how many minutes you have left after each call you make to Bangkok ) but i did expect better quality than this.

I mjust look into other options as i am fed up of having to either shout at May, or keep on saying, i can't hear you, or what did you say and for the measly 10 minutes we get before we are cut off i would like to be able to at least say How are you?

I used to be indecisive.....but now i'm not so sure!!!

It would be churlish to smile smugly and intone som nam na,but...

I used to have exactly those problems dialling apartments from a land line, let alone a mobile. Never had a similar problem since using the T-UK service. In fact, the first time I used it Noi thought I was in LOS. Nuff said? Smiler

voipdiscount is infact free to thai mobiles as well as landlines.
used it for about six months then for some reason wont work no more. voipdiscount dont know why and orange (my ip) dont know why. un-installed, re - installed it (several times) but still no luck. When Pars family answer phone it just keeps ringing at my side. i know many others who are still using it with no prob so it is obviously down to my laptop.

have to say we are having no probs with 07744 number or 0844 number

Hi

For those that like voip then VoipBusterPro is almost free for 1 year. I've been using it for a few months now and it seems to work pretty well.

The deal is that you pay 10 euro plus tax for up to 5 hours of "free" calls per week. The calls are not quite free as there is a small connection charge and they time out after 1 hour but you can redial. The 10 euro price includes 5 euro of calling credit. If you go over the the 5 hours in the week you do get charged for the call but the price is still pretty low (although other voip services may then be lower).

I use it to phone Kate and normally the service is fine and we're quite happy with it. Kate's also just been here on holiday and she used it to phone friends and relatives in Thailand and France with no problems.

I normally use headphones and sit at the PC as I like to make long calls like this but I've also used a SIP ATA to connect a "normal" phone to the service via my router.

Oh nearly forgot the "free" calls apply to both Thai landlines and mobiles.

David

PS It also sends sms too.

Not as far as I am aware - I use these numbers a lot and I still have them included in my inclusive minutes.

o2 have changed their deal now and if you werent on a monthly contract before the 27th April you now have to pay 20p per minute to 0845 numbers. if you signed up before then it is dealt with teh same as an 01 or 02 number. so says the website

Special Numbers on O2.co.uk

Bad news for TUK Telecom and consumers who want to avoid being ripped off for customer services calls.

Sites like www.saynoto0870.com will receive increased taffic.

A complete rip-off - how can they justify charging 20p per minute for a free phone number or a 1p-10p per minute number?

From January 2008, 0870 will be charged on ALL networks at the same rate as 01, 02 and 03 numbers - or at least they should. From that date 0870 are to be treated in exactly the same way as standard geographical numbers.
