thanx for this.
have downloaded today and tried it. it really works. a bit of a delay between talking and the other person hearing but can cope with that when you know the call is for free.

Just an update on this service.
After spending what seemed like all day on the phone to her mother Par was disconnected and received a message saying you have used up all your free calls please buy credit. I thought here we go, heres the catch. i went to the homepage and was asked to purchase 10 Euros of credit, which i did just to see how many minutes this give me. This 10 Euro credit entitles you to phone countries for which there is a charge but also entitles you to continue calling LOS free. Banana

Hi Folks
ive heard from my brother who is into this internet telephony in a big way, that apparantly that 10 euro credit will get you free calls to Thailand for 4 months

They will also supply you with a telephone number for your pc, he lives in Spain but has a Liverpool (0151) number so i can call him for free from my uk mobile to his PC, i'm assuming it can be done from Thailand too, something we will have to try

The only problem with all this technology is trying to keep up with it,

Many happy calls DB

We tried it out and it worked well.

We ran out of time and then found that you had to pay EUR11.70 for 4 months.

We decided that we will continue to use the 18185 for now.

Yes, but there is more than one way to look at this. Firstly calls to Thailand, and calls to UK numbers starting 01 or 02 are totally free, so don't into the credit amount. But some other calls do eat into the credit, for example, calls to UK 0845 and 0870 numbers, and calls to UK mobiles.

As long as there is still some credit left then the free calls can continue to be made, but at the same time you can utilise the credit by making other calls.

Mam and I use Skype. You buy credit on your credit card, 10 euros at a time....and you ae limited to 10 euros a month for the first three months until you are classified as a regular user. After that no limits, I believe.

Sound is very good at both ends, no delay, echos etc. As we are usually calling Buriram and all they have is mobiles, we are paying 10 cents per minute, any time of day. Mam just called for 30 minutes for 3 euros.

Calling BKK is about half that price. If any of your families have broadband up there in the village ( some hope!!) then it's free.

There are no limits per see its just there credit card authorisation waits until the first purchase is almost finished before allowing you to purchase extra credits Help You can buy 25 euros at a time.

That said we use skype as most of the other cheap oprions don't work in switzerland and the quality is very good, plus we have a skype cordless dual phone which makes it very user friendly.

Oh...I seem to have missed something. Voip is free to Thailand?

I must look into it. We are a bit out of the way here in Portugal.

Thanks for the pointer, John and others.

Since I last posted I just downloaded Voipdiscount, bought 10 euros credit and phoned Thailand.

It's all true. Great line, no delays or echoes. We spoke to Mam's brother Bin.

In our excitement hadn't realised we would be waking him up...he was quite understanding about it !!

How long will this Thailand free offer last. I can't believe it will be indefinite. Surely this is all to get us hooked before imposing a charge.

Still, fantastic for as long as it lasts.

I think ' Coralgraph ' deserves an award for bringing Voipdiscount to our attentions, This has been a top class service for my wife, she calls her family and friends all the time now without worrying about the phone bill, when you sign up you have to put 10 euro's ( £6.92p plus VAT )into your account which you have to use up in 120 day's. Easy i was up and running in less than 10 minutes. Also i can call my friends & family in the USA for free, Great Stuff.

3 Cheers to Coralgraph

My wife calls Thailand maybe 1 hour a day or about 2/3 hours on a sunday, So i wonder what are the limits for the free calls,

Here is a quote from Voipdiscounts terms and conditions:

Excessive Use
1. In the case of VoipDiscount free calls, there are restrictions on the maximum number of calls and the duration of the calls.

2. In the case of VoipIn numbers, applying for more than one number is excessive use

3. In the case of Fair Use Promotions, what is excessive use will either be advertised by VoipDiscount at the time of the relevant promotion or included in this Fair Use Policy prior to the commencement of the relevant promotion.

Our rights
1. VoipDiscount may charge you a cost-price based rate for any subsequent calls to one of the free destinations, terminate your account, or deny the use of the VoipDiscount service or features of it.

Maybe i'll have to tell the wife to slow down for the next week or so and then see how it goes from there..
