Hi All, this is my first post so I hope I am doing it right? I keep in touch with Thailand by email and Skype which is nice and cheap. There are times however that it is nice to send an SMS but I get hammered by Vodaphone for this - approx 50p per text??

Does anyone know of a way to send much cheaper SMS?

Yes, I've used the following for quite a few years now. Good consistent service and cheap SMS messages to and from anywhere in the world:

ipipi.com - send SMS worldwide

It costs between $0.11 and $0.15 (6.3p to 8.5p) per message depending on how many credits you buy in advance.

If your main concern is that the girlfriend has to go to an internet cafe, there are several free internet based SMS services to send messages, search Google for 'free SMS text'. It also hides who it's from

i send sms via o2, and it costs 12 pence any time of the day, and when i call thailand, i use, easy dial .com, where it is 3.9 pence per minute

Depends on how sure you are that you are the one and only.

T-Mobile charges me 18p for sms which is ok with me (not big bucks)
