Hi all, I am wanting to get my wife a contract mobile phone in her name. the problem is i am struggling to try and get one for her in her name as she has only been here since february 2006 and as such has no credit rating i believe.
she will be paying the phone bill every month via direct debit from our joint current account. can any members who have been in this situation recommend any mobile service providers who will do this. yes my wife can just have a pay as you go phone. but our rational is if she has a contract phone with statements coming to our address over 2 years from now gives us a bit more evidence for when we come to apply for the next visa to show that we are living together for 2 years etc etc |

Have you tried ORANGE ?
My wife had been in England about 10 months when she tried to get contract phone with them.(I don't know if having contract phone with them myself for about 9 years helped or not) All she needed was proof of address (she used T.V lisence and bank statement) and passport for I.D. Have you tried the network that you are on(If you have contract mobile phone) Hope this helps. L.F. |

The networks have all tightened up lately. Used to be common to get asked for a deposit but those types of deals seem to be turning into straight refusals.
Most stay at home 18 year olds were asked for anything up to £250, now they can't get a phone for love nor money. If you have been trying a few places, best to wait a few weeks and try again at an idependant dealer. Not so much of a numbers game for them, Jack |

I remember reading an article a while back about transfering mobile contracts between individuals.
Could you get it in your name and then transfer it to your partner? The article I read was about people reselling 'free weekend' and 'everyday 50' tarrifs on eBay so they were after good tarrifs rather than transfering for credit check reasons. Packpao |

They still apply the same credit check criteria on transfers.
I know a few dads that have fallen foul of that one, cost them a fortune Jack |

Get an orange contract in your name and set up your internet account and change the name after the first bill, obviously you will need to change the bank details but I left mine the same and just changed the name online
