Don't judge a book by it's cover. A familiar story: 50 year old Brian falls in love with Pattaya bar girl, Boom. Brian lives in England with his mum, Florrie. Florrie has a sister, Ethel. The story is told in an unusual fashion, almost exclusively through an exchange of letters and postcards between Brian, Boom, Florrie and Ethel. Don't expect a literary marvel, the letters are written as the characters would write them. Bob Andrews takes a completely different approach from the usual "heartache sob stories", and provides more of an insight into the terrible state of working class Britain, rather than attempting another pretentious understanding of the working class Thai. There is a moral with the tale, but you'll need to read the book to find it.
