When Dum, a young peasant boy, falls in love with Rumpoey, the daughter of a wealthy city family, they vow that, whatever happens, they will one day be together. Ten years on Dum is the notorious gang-member 'Black Tiger'. When he is commanded to execute police captain Kumjorn, Kumjorn has one last request - that Dum explain to his fiancé how he died. Dum realizes that Kumjorn's fiancé is, in fact, Rumpoey. Unable to ruin what he believes is her happiness, Dum lets Kumjorn go, and thus sets the wheels in motion for the love of yesteryear to come rushing back. But will Dum's new life cause the demise of their budding love?

This is the strangest film you will ever see! Iang and I went to see it at a cinema in Ricmond - there were three other people in the audience. Iang simply did not get it and hates the film.
Once I realised it was a comedy, I loved it. It is basically a western set in Thailand. All of the cowboys speak with deep cowboy voices. The colours are bright and unnatural like cowboy films of the 50s.
It is hard to work out what period it is set in as they ride around on horses, but at one point there is a shoot out with bazookas!
As I understand it this was the first movie by a couple of young Thai directors. Strange it may be but it is certainly memorable and worth a look. May be worth having a few drinks first though . . . .

Poor old Dum, if only he could have put that pride aside. Perhaps then he wouldn't have got whipped, dropped out of college, wiped out a criminal gang, joined an outlaw army, become the best gunslinger in the East, fall out with his blood-brother, okay, okay, I'll stop there. But will Dum and his childhood sweetheart ever be united? Will he survive double-crossing the local warlord? Will he beat his rival, the police captain, to take his rightful place beside Rumpoey on her wedding day?
You'll just have to see 'Tears Of The Black Tiger' to find out. You'll MARVEL at the music, SWOON to the romance, GASP at the gunfighting, be ENRAPTURED by the folk tales and GUFFAW at Mehesuan's criminal moustache! Let Chartchai Ngamsan capture your heart like never before.... in.... Tears of The Black Tiger!
