Adapted from a true story, The Tin Mine is based on the experiences of writer Arjin Panjapak who went to work at a tin mine in the 1950s after flunking university. At the mine, working for a hard-driving foreign boss, his education started over, learning life lessons at the college of hard knocks. It's not an action film, comedy or ghost drama so Thai audiences didn't know what to make of it, so it flopped at the box office. Despite this, Thailand has chosen this nostalgic film as its Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Film.
