If you know Pattaya you will recognise the photo ........its on the second road heading north towards the Big C.
The question is ............whats the purpose of the narrow lane on the right hand side of the road, i notice that the locals ride their bike/motorised food stalls the wrong way down the street, when i try this i get asked to contribute to the green shirts poverty fund curently 700 baht with receipt sometimes less without.

It's called a FARANG LANE. It's a self financing project that the Thais caught on to a while back & you'll now find at least one in every major town. Think of it as a Thai version of the M6 Toll Road saved exclusively for the likes of you & me...the toll part that is! Big Grin

There is a similar lane further up Sai Song (2nd Road) near Big C.

This acts as a slip road for Baht buses to travel against the flow of traffic. I believe they were introduced after consultations with the baht buses after their objections to the one way traffic proposals.
